WYIOC - IAM Courses notification
The IAM (Institute of Advanced Motorists) are holding a dozen classes leading up to IAM testing and qulaification... These are held in Wakefield & in your car with a trained 'Observer' running from Sept 9th through to 25th November...
As an IAM member & un-tested 'Observer' I can fully reccomend the courses to aid your car control, observation & overall driving methods.
For ~£85 you get the following plus superb confidence of knowing that you've achived a high degree of car craft. There is also the possibility of insurance reduction for some companies...
The courses are;
1. Thu 9th Sept - Intro. Class based, Bishopsgarth, Wakefield
2. Thu 16th Sept - Intro to Practical Driving. Hour or so on the road with your Observer.
3. Thu 23rd Sept - Principles of Advanced Driving - Class based, Bishopsgarth.
4. Thu 30th - System of Car Control - On The Road.
5. Sun 3rd Oct - Skill Check Drive. On the road. Halfords, Pontefract.
6. Thu 7th Oct - Advanced Car Control - On the road.
7. Thu 21st Oct - Advanced Driving Methods. On the road.
8. Thu 28th Oct - Manoeuvres. On the road.
9. Thu 4th Nov - Motorways. On the road.
9a. Sun 7th Nov - Skill check drive.
10. Thu 11th Nov - Highway Code & Basic Traffic Law. Class based, Bishopsgarth.
11. Thu 18th Nov - Pre-test Assessment. On the road.
12. Thus 25th Nov - Final Monitoring & Course Review. Class based, Bishopsgarth.
Classes run from 7:30 PM - 9:30 PM
Skill check sessions run 9:45 - 11:45
Road sessions are flexible between driver & observer..
I'm happy to run through this lot for you if you wish some more info..
More details at www.IAM.org.uk
Go on, you know you want to..
PS.. I am not on commission or anything like that. Just an IAM member who thinks this is worth every penny..

Is it Bishopgarth where they do basic drill training for police recruits? I went for some refresher stuff at one Wakey police place prior to the Queen's Scout stuff at Windsor - at least I could march being ex-cadet stuff unlike a lot of them

Andy..
It's a biggish complex now with living accomodation, classrooms and lecture theatres etc serving the whole of the West Yorks Force for basic recruits and general training.
A nice cheap bar too!

are you advocating (or should that be advocaat(ing) ) drink driving, Al? If you don't watch it, things will snowball... <groan>
See you Thursday - I've a semi-interest in doing the course but am still undecided in certain areas. When's the deadline for getting your name down as it's not long to the first session?

Still waiting for the Yorkshire rep to get back. We could try a two pronged attack by you ringing the main office and asking for the West Yorks rep's number...

There's someone at work who's in the IAM as an examiner (or an examiner of examiners - next level up?) but he's on the bike side of things and it almost ne'er the twain shall meet if I've asked him stuff about the car side. That's not meant to be a slating comment but they seem to work in different ways and maybe only have a passing interest in the other side...
I'll give the number a try tomorrow If I can remind myself...
Ta so far...
