Talking Fenay Bridge Fun Day

As discussed candidly at the last couple of meets, Alan and myself have been trying to organise some other activities over the usual pub meet.

I am proposing a day at Rallydrive near Gainsborough, using their 1.25 mile private circuit. I have been offered Saturday March 13th for £400 for the whole day. It's up to us how many cars attend, and so the final cost per car could be as little as £20 for the day if we can tempt 20(max). Also, Howard Patterson, an international rally driver for some 30+ years, and owner of Rallydrive, has offered to make himself available for half a day at a cost of £150 for personal tuition should we all be interested.

The day will be srictly informal . No scrutineering or huffy rules (so you can fit your loudest exhaust ). Obviously this is all in the name of fun, so we will use our own rules to ensure the safety of people and cars. After all, it would be no fun if someone got hurt or (even worse ) damaged their car.

It would be good if we could between us come up with some sort of shelter (canvas gazebo/large tent?) and BBQ facilities for the day. Offers of help on this front will be greatly appreciated. Rallydrive is not a large organised official motor racing circuit, but merely an old concrete airfield in the middle of a corn field. Although, the site is well respected with, among others, Tim Sugden using them for testing and elimination heats for his Clio Challenge competition. Even Ari Vatenen(who ) has driven there! This is why it is so cheap and easy going, but also why there are very limited facilities. There are a couple of portacabins about 1/4 mile from the circuit with warm drinks and toilet facilities, but if we can arrange some more stuff for ourselves it would be better.

I'll edit this 1st post to add names as they sign up. Feel free to post on here or email me as profile.

The time is drawing near, so lets fill in some of the blanks. I propose that those travelling from the West Yorks area will meet at 7am (yes Al, it does need to be that early) just off J30 M62 (Rothwell) for a 7:30 convoy. It was going to be at the Cedar Court J39 M1, but that would mean some would have to travel 8-10 miles south on the M1 only for everyone to travel back up to get on the M62. I've plotted a provisional route which takes us along the M62 to J35 for the M18. South to J5 onto the M180, and on to J3 for the M181 into Scunny where we can top up with Optimax. We'll then head south on the A150 (A159?), thus avoiding all the cameras on the A15.
The nearest Optimax/SUL is the Scunny one, approx 10 miles away.
We are hoping to have a couple of barbeques running around lunchtime, so please feel free to bring suitable provisions. (TBC)
Helmets are available on the day, but feel free to bring your own if you have one.
Passengers are allowed, as long as they have signed in, and are wearing a helmet.
Spectators cars will be allowed to park near the track at an entry fee of £5 which will be deducted from the total cost which is to be divided equally between those driving on the day.

You shouldn't have too many problems mate, seems to be plenty go for sale that will fit yours!

Them bloody brembos on mine are more trouble than enough at times Good brakes! Just wheel fitment nightmares...

My tyres are almost gone now, so if i don't get wheels before then, I will blitz mine as they are and then replace them...

Incidently, if you don't get a full 20 Imprezas, which I will be very supprised if you don't, a mate of mine will definately come along with his 280bhp Audi TT (quite a fast car). The jammy g1t also has his own track day wheels... Just a thought anyway!

Cheers

I'd like to leave it open to Fenay crew first, then the Buckles crowd and the S. Yorks nutters (cheesy, are you listening?). Then we'll open it to all Snetters and then anyone else. Its worth it with even 10 cars, but 20 would be great.

Yeah, no problem. Listen, I can't believe this... As I was replying to your first post, I thought that the 13 March had some significance!

Just realised, this is the day I come back from my skiing holiday! I haven't booked it, done by a friend, so waiting for confirmation as to when we land at Manchester, etc. It still might be a yes from me, but it could quite easily turn into a no tomorrow morning.

Sorry about that! Hopefully, will be flying back in the early hours!!

Na, not had the weather for it...

Won't take long to do, so if it's dry on Saturday/Sunday, will do the back brakes then..

Never mind the Arosa, get that bl00dy Preza on track! If your worried about your tyres, drive hard on the straights, and take the corners like a wuss. only problem there is, your brakes will be even more warped by the end of the day

Hope you and Kath are both well.

Chat soon

Hi Mate - just watching Frasier - nipped out during the ads.... If I warp my brakes, can I have your old ones???

Off to Newcastle tom AM early. Off for some kip after Frasier.

Catch you for a beer/orange soon (Haven't touched a drop since last week's Scouse event!).

Bad news for me, I don't land until 12pm on that Saturday, so don't see much chance of doing the 45 mile drive home, to get the Scoob and then get back to the track to say hello

Oh well, maybe the next one then...

Sorry bout that...

Well, there seemed to be some enthusiasm at the last 2 Fenays when the idea was first proposed by Alan, but the uptake hasn't exactly been vigorous. Come on guys.

I know, come on guys, get your names down, you will have so much fun if you haven't done it before.

You don't have to kill a set of tyres to drive fast and have fun...

I'd love to be their, but.... Any other day, i'd have been up for it, apart from the Saturday before as i'd be on a plane again...

Alan, as Fenay chairman I feel you have a duty to attend
Chris, has your Scoob seen the light of day in the last 6 months? I've seen you on a push bike, in a biscuit tin (Arosa ) and cadging lifts, but not in a Scoob since the 1st meet. Have you secretly sold it and don't want to miss out on the fun ? Should I put you down for this ?

Of course I'm attending!

You don't have to drive too fast.. or ruin your tyres or brakes.... I wont be..

I'll just be having a good time.. no peer pressure.. no scrutineering.. no formal rules (common sense ones obviously) etc etc...

Good company and a BBQ to boot.. proper day!!

Hi Guys - funnily enough, I'm about to take the bl**dy thing back to the garage to get the handbrake slackened off after yesterday's service. Damned thing is binding and causing a vibration at the back end.... At least that's what they're telling me....

And no jokes about vibrating back ends either

Track days, tyres and new house/furniture..... Mutually incompatible, but I'll see what I can do!

Hopefully Sticky will be a yes for the track day. As far as my car, erm, naaa...

You can borrow the Golf TDi though... It is a 150bhp GTI model.... Will give them scoobs a run for their money, up to 20mhp....

Should be OK to spectate Nick. As for the tyres, I think most will be out to enjoy themselves without destroying their pride & joy. If it rains it will help, but even in the dry I want my tyres to see out the spring. Then I can get some shiny new 18's for summer

Simon.. off topic slightly.. is it worth paying the £25 for the few SNET extras?

I'm thinking about it, but as I'm not selling anything, I don't like the Muppet forum, I can't see the point in slagging someone off and swearing on a BB in the 'fight club' and the lounge looks particularly pointless as well. Seeing as 'General' has it all.. so I've answered my own question really.

Only area I see it being worth it, is for the Plus member for getting discounts from the shop...

Any comments?

Maddy, feel free to knick what you want from here .
I'd have to trawl through a few CD archives to find the high res versions. If you need them, let me know and I'll bring them on the 26th.
