Hi folks,

Thanks to all who attended.

Nice to see some big names there again, Harvey, Bob Rawle, Mark Aigin, Trout, Pat, John Banks, Andy F, Pavlo, etc. etc.

Here are the results, sorry they've taken so long but I've been double checking the figures and counting the dots to make sure they are as correct as possible. On the day it's hard to read the torque figures exactly from the graph (I miscounted my own by 10lbsft!), so here the are.....

1. Graham Wild Mitsubishi Pajero Evolution (HKS filter, Custom exhaust, Unichip) 246bhp @ 6346 240lbsft @ 3600 (200lbsft @1500rpm!)

2. Dave **** Audi TT225 (standard) 223bhp @ 6120 195lbsft @ 3000

4. Steve F P1 (full Scorpion decat exhaust with Scoobysport 3" -2.5" downpipe, Blitz LM induction kit) 312bhp @ 6800 (although he did get 326bhp twice) 270lbsft @ 4750

Excellent day (well I would say that ) Great to meet all you guys at last. Thanks to Rich for the organising, ran like clockwork Nice torque out that TD05 of yours mate think they may catch on ?
Many thanks to Harvey for putting us up on Sat night and for the tour of some of Doncasters more 'scenic' pubs

Even got safely home without piston failure, bending a rod or blowing a turbo etc etc

Regarding the results, I think it's safe to say that anyone with their torque peak above 5k was probably slipping on the rollers.
On my own car the graph showed 260lb-ft at 4500 rpm and 0.9 bar, then when the boost switched to 1.6 bar at 4600 rpm the graph instantly dropped to 240lb-ft as the rpm needle bounced off 8500 rpm !
Adding two bodys to the back seat netted an additional 67 bhp !!

On the advice of one of the regular WL runners, I had pumped my tyres up to 40 psi to minimise the rolling losses. I think the garage gauge was a bit out as when I went to let them down when I got home they were at 52psi No wonder traction was an issue !!

David, you need to visit Star 800bhp capacity I think, will that be enough ?

Andy

Edited because andy replied at the same time...

No grip stuff on the rollers at Well Lane, which it could do with really.

Nice day was had by all I think, except perhaps Stan, who was gutted (and rightly so).

Andy, you should have added another person, and got another 33.5hp!

Hi,

LOL @ Andy, Those TD05s certainly seem to do the business!

Sympathy for Stan who came all that way for disappointing results.

Think the rollers were a little shiny at the end of the day, but with Andy running 52 psi on them, I'm not surprised!

Cheers

Cheers Rich,
Reckon TMIC do not work well on RR with my set-up, judging by how rough mine was running! Must get FMIC.
At least engine was OK and ran very well on way home.

I'd agree with the Top mount's performing poorly on the RR. Firstly the fan wasn't directed anywhere near the scoop and the heat soak would not be nice. My average power figure for the 3 (or was it 4) runs was 271bhp but the first run saw it at just over 280bhp . Should have told him to leave it there .

In other words i want/need a FMIC .

Question

Hi all.

Must say I'm confused about RR's as well.

Last time a WL my P1 did 297bhp.

The runs on Sunday were 278, 280, 308, 326 & 326 bhp.

Final figure... 312bhp.

Can anyone tell me how this works please??

Steve.

Cool

Assuming all those runs were on your car...

Easy... the more upset or downhearted you look at the figures, the more you will get given on the next run... until you smile or grin... then power figures wil stabilise. Suspect you grinned when you got the first 320+ figure... hence stabilisation.

Better say that was a joke before I am lynched. That was a joke.

Red face

Stan,

I am sure you saw the other post - but the WL fan is absolutely crap - and for TMIC it is even worse. The GEMS will have been pulling timing and ironically that would have made the heat soak worse as the EGTs will have risen, more retardation, more heat, more retardation....

If you want - email me at rannoch1@hotmail.com - I still have an STi V intercooler that would really improve your inlet temps at the boost you are running. Or if you want to impress on the rollers and get that final edge then go FMIC

Bl00dy hell

Came away on Saturday feeling very pleased with my cars performance. Read the final results here and my torque has gone up from 310 to 315lbs/ft.

I must say, after the PPP was fitted, the car has been totally transformed. It actually feels like a performance car now, just like my old scoob did, whereas before it was a bit of a dead stick...

TMIC certainly no problem on the STI Type UK. My car followed the Audi TT and was sitting parked up with engine running for the best part 20 minutes. I was expecting this to hurt my runs, but didn't seem to Gave the IC water spray 3-4 blasts before driving on to the rollers though, maybe that helped....

Anyway, I have two graphs now, before PPP and after. The lines speak for themselves and I am well pleased.

Question for Bob Rawle, I didn't get chance to speak to you on the day, but I clocked you looking at the boost figures for the STI7 and you said "confirmed my suspicions on that!!". I am curious as to what you meant by this. I checked the Defi's afterwards and the car peaked at around 1.45 bar, not 1.5, and this is not really any different to what is was before the PPP was fitted, it just holds it longer there

Thanks again Rich for another cracking day. Are we gonna see the graphs go up on Scoobynet Dyno pages this time round Go on, you know you want to....

Cheers

See you all again next time..

Hi Simon,

Glad you were pleased.

I'd love to get the figures up on the dyno site but everytime I mail results to them - nothing happens

I've got all the graphs this time - just need someone with a scanner.

Cheers

Top idea David!

I'll give you all the 2nd copies of the graphs on Sunday (and ones from the week before). Unforunately I didn't get 2nd copies from Well Lane 3.

Nice one.

Just to add my thanks to Rich, well worth the trip up even though I actually had little chance to do what I like to do on these occasions and talk about Scoobs.

I actually did datalog my runs and can absolutely confirm that the rollers were "a bit slippy", I hit the boost cut on every run at 6100-6500 rpm, my knackered SO3's didn't help. Next time I will come with slicks in the back !!

Andy you bandit well done, can I borrow your tyres for the next one, now I know why only two were allowed in the back !!

Stan, your car suffered from heatsoak as you kept it running for quite some time prior to the run, Gems temp compensation is fully adjustable so that could be sorted but get that FMIC on.

Harvey thanks for the help with Rich's car (and mine), was good to have someone driving who knew the routine.

Comments about accuracy, its all relative and rollers are comparative, same for all although the amount of "slip" is clearly exponential !! The rolling road at Well Lane is actually the same setup as at PE just as a thought although they do run it differently, Rich I didn't remember to get paw, suppose its too late now ?

Alan G, good meeting up again. John, seem to have missed each other but maybe next time.

Steve Mc ... you needed slicks as well ...

Jonny G, great to see you up and about.

thanks to all

Bob you can come along to our rolling road day at Power Engineering on the 8th of Feb ( see Southern section ) if you need a comparision between the rollers results, Steve is coming and he needs some competition.

Andy well done, not bad for a first run, how did you run the engine in so quick.

Colin

Will be very interesting to get the PE comparison. Will see it gets the boosts its supposed to at PE, that said I noted quite a lot of peoples boost was down on the day, especially Rich W.. although that Torque figure is strange

I'm hoping the clutch holds so am not going to abuse it before the day!!

Well Lane must have done something with the rollers. I've had 346lbs before there.. but each time it seems to be all over the place.. and theres me thinking that power was a function of the torque, or is a function of the area under the torque curve??
