I replied with the following...

Hello Mark.

Many thanks for your email. I must apologise for not being to help on this occasion. I have a set charity I help and I stick to that alone.

Many thanks again and give my best wishes to Jack.

David

And the reply I got back, again at 11pm last night...

hi David
jack cant have chemo as they done another scan on his head and he has another bleed and the tumour has grown so much that they said chemo will kill him so he as the max of 2-3 weeks left please check on facebook or on the internet mate
I no you have one charity but please find it in your heart to send a gift I can put as a prize or in raffle no matter how small it all helps please
mark

Legit? I doubt it very much, but should I do anything about it? I'm quite sure, if it's fake, Gary Barlow's legal team would be interested to know someone is using his name in what is effectively fraud.

I assume you cut & pasted the email so all you need to decide is if it's Nigerian or Eastern European judging by the terrible use of English..

Yep, they sent me a few pictures. After some digging, there is meant to be a Mark Newman who does charity work, but I thoroughly expect he can spell properly for a start.

I don't get a lot of requests at all.

Those phone numbers seem very long? Do they work?

You could call the golf club and ask about a charity event.

Haven't tried the numbers, but if it's all indeed fake, what can you do about the guy anyway?

The more I read about the little boy, the more I feel I could start an unwanted problem.

There's no real way of knowing if this guy is legit, whether the event at the course is true or not. If it IS true, the guy could still be fake and if it's real, then I've put myself into a position that isn't called for.

Think I'll let it slide and forget about it.
