Default Another election promise dismissed

Coalition row after MP's recall plan is abandoned

The idea, which was proposed in response to the public anger about the 2009 parliamentary expenses scandal, was included in both the Conservatives' and Lib Dems' last general election manifestos.

In their 2010 Coalition Agreement, both parties promised "early legislation" to allow voters to force a by-election "where an MP is found to have engaged in serious wrongdoing".
Now dropped so they can continue to feed at the trough filled by the taxpayer!

They really are the dregs of society, mind you we only ahve ourselves to blame as we let them get away with it every time!

I'm sure they said they would lower the amount they were spending on the expense accounts but I'm sure since to coalition have came into power that has went up by £500m, Now where would that money be better spent

Really? Well outside of the media find me another section of society that has so much and takes even more? Greed and self obsession at its worst!

Anyway glad you are happy to pick my post apart rather then be perturbed by your tax being spent on their moats and duck houses

Ok, dregs of society outside of the media/politics. We'll start with benefit scroungers, the ones that refuse to work and live off the welfare system (while smoking 30 a day while watching Jeremy Kyle and drinking special brew). Then there's the career criminals, those who make a living outside of the law. Sex offenders as well (be that pedophiles etc) again I'd say there firmly placed in the scummier end of society.

Have to say picking your post apart is more entertaining than getting stroppy over the misuse of taxes.

The country is full of people like you who would rather kick benefit claimants in the teeth while the politicians, media, bankers, financiers etc. do what the hell they like. Maybe you should stop reading the Daily Mail and realise that when the benefit cheats you despise so much look to those who are supposed to be setting an example and see them behaving how ever they like and getting rich off the back of the taxpayer it is probably some way understandable why they behave the way they do!

If you follow the mantra of leading by example, then benefit cheats and criminals are doing exactly what our esteemed leaders are doing. Gaining financial benefit via immoral and unjust means.

So, in your opinion politicians are role models for benefit cheats and scroungers? How many do you think they could name?

Their behaviour would be exactly the same regardless, provided they can get away with it. Try asking them who's in the Big Brother house instead.

Media focus on bankers and politicians merely provides the losers with a tenuous excuse for their behaviour.

But it's always someone else's fault it's the big bad politicians or the bankers or the media.

Yeah, you're right so we should lock them all up but let the politicians get on with it as they are a better class of person. Upper class people that cheat and scam are just loveable rogues to your sort aren't they?

Sycophants. That's what they are. They must actually believe their own hype. Promising one thing then doing a complete u turn. All whilst ensuring they're lining their own pockets by hook and crook. Guy Fawkes had the right idea..,,,,,

I never said it was easy, but equally I've had jobs that are both easy and hard yet never have I felt the need to put my hand 'in the till' so as to speak!

If someone finds being an MP is so hard that they need to steal from the public purse then they need to find another job. It's not like they don't get a salary or are press ganged into the position!

I have met my MP several times over Leveson/Hacked Off and he seems to be managing to make ends meet!

All I am asking is they keep the promises THEY make to the electorate even if most of the electorate don't seem to give a **** what they do until it's too late! Apathy, enemy of the people, friend of the politicians!

I'd guess you're a victim of the media, blindly believing the hype.
Let's take a look at this thread. So far you've used the words "dregs, greed, self obsession, cheat, scam, rogues.. etc.."
What research have you done into this subject? read The Sun maybe?

The big deal in the first place was the lack of accountability re expenses. If you give a group, any group, free rein, you can expect a little rule bending. I'd have started with Police and Journalists expenses before MP's TBH.

I read an article in the press the other day which insinuated that an MP was wrong to claim back office expenses, pens or some such. The figure was around £2 and fished out of some online list.
Typically they were ignoring the fact that somebody has to pay for this sort of thing, the chances are the claim was being made by a diligent secretary along with other reasonable expenses and the MP concerned didn't know anything about it. The article was clearly mischievous, aimed at making the MP look mean, petty and money grabbing.
Is this the sort of reporting we deserve, designed to undermine the Parliamentary system? Democracy itself in fact? You've clearly swallowed it hook line and sinker. What do you suggest, Anarchy?

A damn sight more research than you I would think. A litle rule bending? Some of them went to prison and many more had to pay back thousands of pounds.... in some cases tens of thousands.... so I doubt it was for a few BIC biros, but if you will read the gutter press and their focus on trivialisation I guess that is the opinion you will form.

PS it was The Telegraph that broke the expenses scandal story not The Sun
