Default World Cup Qatar Construction Death Toll

382 Nepalese migrant workers in two years, and it's predicted as many as 4000 could die by the end of the project in 2022.

http://www.theguardian.com/world/201...kers-died-2013

Human life is not worth much in those countries, we know that, but Qatar should never have been eligible to host the World Cup for this reason. Now all these people will die just so we can sit and watch some football. Sick or what?

Yeh cause its the Sport thats the problem. These migrant workers are working and dying on other construction sites throughout the Middle East regardless of what the structure will be used for. Separate issue.

Well that bastion of honesty and integrity that is FIFA gave the world cup to Qatar so I think the connection is fairly obvious, even to you!

HMG are making roughly the same number of Nepalese Gurkhas redundant. Cost neutral.

Yes, the treatment of foreign, predominantly Pakistani, Bangladeshi and Indian workers in the construction of these middle eastern "paradises" has been a scandal for many years

Often they are little more than slaves, with confiscated passports and no means to exit the countries they work in, legally tied to the employer

The World Cup situation was inevitable - when you have corruption on corruption it is never going to end well for people at the bottom of the pile

There are few people more materialistic and morally corrupt than the ruling classes of the Gulf states.

Nail on head.
Fifa have blood on their hands too, giving a world cup to a state that has no real interest (other than money) in football.

Yup.

Dubai was built by this virtual slave labour. Thousands of people from the Indian subcontinent died in the construction boom of Dubai.

They are an overtly racist culture. For the same job they will pay differently depending on your country of origin, and not suprisingly Emiratis(? Sp) will get the most.

Makes you realise just how lucky we are to live in a society like ours. (Despite some members constantly putting this country down as a basket case)

......oh yes it does.....

Remove your cranium from your splenic flexure and you too will notice things. To be fair I think your head has been up there too long and there is no hope for you.

Check this out BTW, from a hero of yours....http://www.fifa.com/newscentre/news/...398/index.html

You can understand a few deaths in any civil engineering project of such large scale (close to a dozen during building of the Channel tunnel, for example), but figures like this are just plain shocking.

It shows the complete disregard for human life in that part of the world. There is a lot of wealth in those countries but it is tempered by the proportional lack of morality and fairness. The sooner the oil wells run dry and the sooner those profiteering from oil are brought in to the real world the better.

To be honest I doubt many people will really care about the death toll? Yes we can all get the do gooders saying this is disgraceful but they will just sip their wine in the pub and move on and it will be forgotten the next day.

I do think hosting the world cup in this country will mean a lot more people will be staying for years longer than they thought as I bet Quatar has a zero tolerance for bee! and I bet fighting will be sort of frowned on
