Desolation of Smaug - spoiler alert
Went to see it yestrday. It's a bit of a yawn fest. Why oh why have they added so much stuff that isn't in the book?
The original is short, humorous, good enough frankly. This is bloated and contradictory.
All this nonsense with the Orcs hunting them, and the Necromancer, who turns out to be Sauron. Why? In LOTR, they suspect then find out that Sauron has returned. Now Gandalf has faced him personally and been imprisoned by him, doesn't make the subsequent story just plain wrong?
Enjoyable in bits, too long by far, too much unnecessary characters.
Of course, I will have to see the third one to see what other rubbish they pile in, and that is why Jackson is clever. Despite these films being average, you have to know what comes next!

Gandalf's imprisoning by, and fight with the Necomancer was alluded to in the book, but not storied directly. There's no way he could have known it was Sauron though, because Tolkien didn't know it at that point
