It was tragic and due to a wiring fault afaicr, it also happened just before Lockerbie.

I was staying with my family in the Lockerbie hotel literally a couple of days before the disaster, we were on the way up to a holiday further North.

It was a grim holiday to say the least

ONE wire left connected at one end. It moved itself back and touched the old connection, bypassing the new...with fatal results.

It's is hard to believe it's been 25 years, I worked with a lady who was on one of the trains, thanksfully she arrived unscathed later in the day.

It was quite an era for disasters, I can remember this, Lockerbie, Heysel, Hillsborough, Bradford, Kings Cross, Kegworth, the Shuttle.

The Herald of Free Enterprise disaster too. I remember one of the first divers to enter the ferry being interviewed afterwards saying he was only to look for survivors but he had found the body of a little boy and couldn't leave him there. Lump in throat moment.
