I'd say that's a cracking price if it's as good as they suggest.

I have friends here who build their own electric bikes, four bikes built so far, and these cost over £1000 each. However these are serious bits of kits and can do around 30mph without (over 40 mph with) assistance and a range of 50-60 miles.

Has anyone else seen the little engine that can be fitted to a pushbike, making it into a low powered moped?

I've seen two: one has now been confiscated, the other is still around town, and, get this....his exhaust pipe exits right in front of his face!!!! LOL.

Can't see the point personally as I use my bike for leisure / fitness and therefore want to pedal it. Even if commuting it would be from a fitness perspective, otherwise use the car, less likely to get killed by a half asleep trucker.

It's called regenerative braking.

Not everyone is a budding Bradley Wiggins.

A lady on our road has an electric assisted bike, she loves it, she reckons it will keep her active and cycling well into her advancing years, because the motor takes the strain on the hills, of which there are many in these parts

I've had a couple of goes on it, and the motor is surprisingly powerful. It also only works when the rider is pedalling, a legal requirement apparently.

I would guess that it's the back pedalling that triggers the hub to switch to regenerative mode?
