Well, the question is this, a friend of mine has just died following a motorcycle accident, now then, her sister has said that she died due to an Embalism (spelling) behind her eye, the thing is, I'm not sure whether the Embalism was caused by the accident, or is it possible that she had had it for years, and the shock made it bleed, then causing her to die, my thoughts are that if she had it for years, it could have bled at any time, and therefore the accident might not have been the sole reason for her death, another mate was riding the motorcycle that she was pillion on, and he's blaming himself for it. Hence my question.

Any thoughts would be appreciated.
Ron.

An embolism is somthing that moves and blocks the blood supply. For example a deep vien thrombosis is not really a problem as it is just a clot in a vein. It is only when it moves up the vein (becoming an embolism) and blocks the blood supply in the lungs it becomes serious. Embolisms are mosly formed by clots, air, or fat. Massive head trauma would reult in embolisms in the brain due to the damage to the blood vessels. The cause of the embolism could have been something else, but I guess it is most likely to be head trauma.

PS I am not a fully qualified Medic.

Sorry about your loss..

If there well fractures to bones-v likely in a mcycle crash - then it may well have been a fat embolism. But a blood clot embolism is more common.
