I'm after a iMac Superdrive computer. PC World appear a bit expensive. Does anyone know a reputable dealer with good prices.

Many thanks

Alan

SO much cheaper than PC world.....

Very easy, all delivered to yer door.

She's a teacher, so got "educational rates". Weren't asked for any proof of this however.....so read into that what you will

Cool

Alan,

the problem is that only Apple make iMacs, so there are not loads of small hardware companies trying to undercut one-another - they are all going to be operating on similar margins.

I bought mine via the Apple Store on the web, and it arrived on my doorstep within 2 weeks. It was a built-to-order Superdrive model with 1GB memory (don't forget that there are only two slots, and the standard ones comes with 256MB already fitted).

Nice bit of kit - and quite different to the usual MicroShaft-based stuff.

boomer is right, Apple has the monopoly on Macs and thus there is no real price war as there is with PC's

The apple store education route sounds interesting, but maybe a tad dodgy.

I'm lucky as I work for a company that develops Apple Mac software, thus we get rather nice discounts on Apple kit, but I've got a PC at home! go figure!

Puff - NOOOOOOOOO - tell her to run Virtual PC! unless she wants to play games then it should be good enough!

I used to work for a company that was an apple reseller and one that developed software, there is very little margain in the products, don't expect a great discount...
Apple do developer programmes too whereby companies such as the one marcus works for get reasonable rates.
Apple prices are coming down though....slowly......

Thanks for all the replies.

I am working on the educational discount as I work for a Charity and the final home for the computer will be at a community/educational resource centre in Africa.

I have managed to find Micro Anvika, with stores in London and one in the Whitgift Centre in Croydon. Superdrive imac @ 1,559 is cheaper than the educational discount which has a 2 week delivery time.

Thanks

Alan

We've got Virtual PC but she gets confused - IT revolution has plunged my wife into the dark ages!! KISS is the best anacronym for her & having to even start something different gets her flustered despite whatever training/patience I might exhibit! W2K @ Home & W98 @ Work worry her as well
