It's a luxury now. The noble battlers against 'entitlements' have seen to that.

Strange idea, that keeping warm is a basic human right.
How warm, though?
I was brought up until age eleven in a semi in Humberston, on North Sea Lane, just down from Beacholme Camp.
We had no central-heating, just a fire in the dining, and one in the living room. The living room was only used for special occasions.
All life went on in the dining room, that's where the TV was when it arrived, (12" tube, and it would only receive BBC).
The bedrooms were iceboxes...there were fireplaces, but we couldn't afford them lit. Getting up for school on cold mornings was a race to see how fast you could get dressed.
So yes, I'm willing to put on more clothes.
Unfortunately, however, the idea that we can save money on our energy bills is false.
Privatised companies HAVE to make a profit.
If we use less, they will just bang the price up. We've already seen it.

Looking at the estates round here, it would appear that 50" televisions, Sky boxes and XBoxes are basic human rights too

However, I enhanced this mechanism in my own home once I could afford one. I do put my jumper on, of course I do! But in addition, I have my heating on as well. Works better for me.

What gets me is how many of these "hard up people" that use the local food banks, and can't afford heating, have sky tv, smoke 80 a day, get pissed every day, and have a drug habit.
Sorry but to those, freeze you bugger freeze!!

so any basic human rights?
right to work?
right to healthcare?
right to Education?
right to equality before the law
right to shelter and warmth
or actually a right to nothing -- whats your view?
quite plausible to argue for a "right" to absolutely nothing

all my children have those privileges
after all, rights are intrinsic and privileges are bestowed

Maybe he could tell my missus, boils my pi$$ when I come home from work and she's sitting there in a t shirt with the heating on full blast.
We've one of those wireless programmer/stat things, I might set it and lock it in my desk drawer, that'll learn her.

If she looks and dresses like her in your avatar I don't know what you're grumbling at?
