When they are old enough to decide themselves, My girlfriend wanted to have our little girls done when she was 2 years old - told her in no uncertain terms there was no chance in hell she was putting holes in my daughters ears.

When they're old enough to look after the piercing themselves.

Or 16 at least.

Three years old is risking all sorts of problems through primary school, where kids still tussle daily.

I'd wait until 10 or eleven, by which time girls are so far ahead of boys it's unreal.

Definitely not in my opinion. I first was allowed to have mine done at a guess around 8/9 (Mam wasn't keen but gave in eventually, maybe she knew I wouldn't stick it)and had some bother with them, enough to let the holes close up and I didn't get them re-pierced until I was in my teens and able to look after them properly. I don't think it is necessary to put a child as young as 3 through the initial pain (to them it's likely to really hurt) and chance of any problems causing them pain/discomfort.

I had my ears done at 6, when I wanted them to be done. My parents never imposed or instigated.

I got my nose pierced at 15. It closed up, so I had to get it re-done at 16. That was also when I cried to my parents to get it done. They didn't force me to get that done either.

Child cannot consent to get it done themselves till 16, before that parents consent for the child. No Gillick Competency applies.

16 is a good age to think about it then..........

Mine moidered me to get her ears pierced at 12. I didn't mind that. We got them done for her at a hair dresser's. She got her little cute nose done at 16.

One day when she was 14, she freaked me out with wearing a false nail looking thing on her mouth, and one sticky thing in her eyebrow. She told me that she pierced them on herself. I was going absolutely ballistic, and she was laughing her head off. Then she took them off, told me it was her dramatics to wind me up, and gave me a massive hug. Bleddy kids.
