Angry Credit card scammed

Someone's been using my credit card in Sandton ( joburg) , we went in February - apparently they booked a flight, other stuff last few days - told em its not me which they accept

I reckon its the place we were staying there. Dodgy receptions staff???

How far can you get with these details and probably home address ?

If you've got the card details and address you can pretty much order anything you like online. Cancel the card, get a new one.

I've had a day of trying to figure out which orders on my website are genuine and scammers! Almost got caught out too! Almost

So you can / you will accept payment from a card at one address but delivered to another ( including another country). ???

In theory, the payment can be accepted but... every order is looked at individually and scored. Two orders I've had today were for high value items delivered to london and I voided both.

Does you credit company use 3D secure, where you have to use a password to authorise payment?

Hopefully the message will spread to surrounding countries

That's the one. After you've completed a couple of transactions using your password, it knows it's you so doesn't keep asking. Probably by IP address.

Is it possible it was used by someone who had the password? If not, it was probably accepted by someone who didn't require/demand the 3D password.

It's a risky business not requesting it and you're open to chargebacks for unauthorised purchases but it's possible.

You should get your money back but it's scary to think someone can buy something without your knowledge.

No chance at all Boro , as far as I'm aware

The message has spread all ready Ding, if you want to make quick money you head for SA, even worse ten years ago when the Nigerians would pass through the place on the way here

Then it's most likely been used at a vendor that doesn't request that piece of info. I know we do! Some banks haven't signed up for it so if you use one of these banks on our site, you won't be able to buy anything over £20.

Sad, but I'd rather lose a sale than risk fraudulent purchases and chargebacks.

I'd change your password as a precaution anyway, just incase.

Where in Sandton? I'm back there again in a couple of weeks and must have been lucky as I've stayed in Sandton around 80 times over the last 15 years. Mainly Michelangelo and Park Hyatt in Rosebank, but also Hilton etc

Duncan, my credit card was also misused like that in Africa. My card company sorted it out very well for me. Glad you also got it sorted.
