I feel I am being "ripped off" by BT for my International calls from home. I am making a lot of calls to Eastern Europe. Can anyone help by suggesting a cheaper alternative supplier (as I am aware there are others who you can access by putting a prefix number in prior to dialling.)

Buy a really long piece of string and get 2 empty cans.

Make a hole in each can and thread the string through but make sure you tie a knot in each end so that the string does fall through the hole.

Now go to Heathrow, find a flight to the place you want to call, find someone who's on that flight and get them to take one of the cans with them. Give them the name and address of the person you want to speak to and ask them to deliver the can to them.

TA DAAAAAAA

The connection time may be a bit long but this way is the cheapest.

Glad i could help

Mike

I use equitalk. It's all done online and all you need to do is prefix your number with 1664. They give you a credit balance and only take any money when you owe them £20. 3 months later and I still haven't had to pay them anything !

4p/min to the US is what got me. BT was 23p

Dead easy & they call quality is fine.

PS if you do sign up stick my a/c id in as a referrer - LPW243 I get a free mars bar or somesuch tat.

Buy a couple of disposable BBQs - one for yourself and one for the person you intend to call.

Cook high fat SAUSAGES on them and as the fat drips smoke is created. Waft an old blanket over the smoke to create the signals.

Using this method (with cheap tesco SAUSAGES and a BBQ twinpack) it is possible to have a 25 minute conversation for the sum of £4.50.

DO NOT TRY THIS IN THE KITCHEN

Get the wife to do the sausage thing - but in the kitchen. Pretend shes done something really really stupid - like been on the phone for 2 hours and the kitchen is starting to burn down.

Run into the street and shout "Fire!"

When the neighbours run out to see the commotion - nip into their house and use the phone for free !

Note make sure you make the phone call yourself - do not let your wife as she may get distracted and actually burn the kicthen down and it'll turn into an expensive call. Plus - you'll have the **** ripped out of you by the fireman and anyone you're stupid enough to tell

Fortunately () my wife is unable to "do the sausage thing" for me. It appears she doesn't have the errrr correct "utensils".

I, on the other hand, have done "the sausage thing" for her in all manner of strange cooking locations. Including an MG Midget - but thats a story for another BBS

Ask your friend in easten europe to send you one of each of the countries coins. One will likely weigh the same as a UK 10 pence piece. Find the coin that works in a payphone (if its slightly too heavy shave a bit off), Then take a £1 coin to a bank and ask them to exchange this for as many of the coins that they can based on the current exchange rate. With a typical easten european country you should get about 5000 of these babies swan off to the nearest payphone and enjoy cheaper calls

Use your computer if you have one and there is one the other end, with MS Messenger or NetMeeting.

The cheapest route would be to use your PC as said earlier, but another option not mentioned yet would be calling cards, you buy them from your local newsagents, without wishing to sound racisit, Asian owned shops are more likely to have them, as you can imagine within said communities there is a heavier demand for international calls.

They work like a mobilephone voucher you buys a £10's worth or more of cheap call's dial a prefix on your number and your off !
