Interesting program, but very artificial!

The only punishment that the guards can give is a bread & water diet or solitary confinement. However solitary is only for 90 minutes at a time (i think) and the prisoners can simply walk into the guards quarters and steal there food anyway (as per tonight).

That, coupled with cell doors that don't lock properly, the shrinks adding and removing people whenever they want, and probably a whole host of "other rules" that we don't know about, dilutes the real value of "the experiment".

I bet that the original was much more realistic

Probably, but at the end of the day they wanted to make good tele. whats more exciting, an easily break outable prison and the inevitable breakout or an impregnable fortress where everyone sits on their ****?
astraboy.
Still an excelent programme though.

I am surprised that more people are not watching it. The next episode sees it turning into a Fascist regime so should get interesting. What I find funny is that some of the prisoners don't want to do anything naughty in case the experiment ends, not realising that anything goes within reason.

The rules have probably put in place after the American version of this study...

The original one had to be cancelled after the "Guards" and "Prisoners" took things to the extreme, fighting, lock downs and removal of basic rights.

An interesting study in to role perception none the less.

If I had my old notes to hand I would be able to give more details.

Wink

the bourgeois + proletariat=
revolutionists,communism,despotism sounds scarily familiar.

a prison without locked doors kinda defeats the object though
