Default Broken toes mending

Snapped all toes windsurfing where strap was ( except big one)

How long does it take to heal, do I really have to wear this boot thing they gave us - inside as well as outside house ??

( i and then they decided no cast )

6 weeks no doubt. I'd definitely wear the cast thing, might help your shoes fit later.

I hope you're kidding me Jack

You need to wear the boot, and you should have some straps as well? If you do not, you risk the toes setting incorrectly (and then Jack's comment about the shoes becomes true...).

I broke my big toe in 1996. It took about a year to stop limping. It still gives me some trouble now and again.

Speedy recovery, Duncan.

Big toe?

That's a whole bigger accident isn't it?

I should imagine that's a lot more inconvenient

Thanks Swati

I meant the biggest toe on the foot, but I'll let you do clever commenting.

That a bit of a misconception. Bone is still healing for about 2 years after the injury.

Never broken, but I "bruised" two of mine playing football some years ago, could have fooled me about the bruising because it hurt like bloody hell, took about 3 months before they were good again and it was 2nd and 3rd toe, just had them strapped to one another, at the time they basically said there was nothing much else they could do anyway.

Don't envy you at all.

No fair. I broke my big toe playing football. Went to the hospital and they said you can't cast a toe and yet you get a shoe it took me a good 4weeks before being able to walk normally. Never forget Lucy my dog walking on it OUCH it was like I broke it again...

So you broke your toe windsurfing big man, when I used to work in utilities as a pipe layer I would do this regularly at 3 in the morning getting over exuberant with a jackhammer, trouble was I had kids to support and a mortgage to pay. Having time off would mean loss of income so I carry on regardless.

Get in the real world, man up and stop looking for sympathy on here because you are making me pi$$ myself with laughter..........numbskull

I broke a finger a couple of months ago, didnt get it looked at and didnt keep it strapped up and it's healed slightly bent and remains swollen around the joint, and slight pain under pressure.
So, while I do agree with 'just get on with it', make sure you get them healing correctly, as I would imagine incorrectly healed toes would cause future problems, where as my finger doesn't matter!!

Broken 9 of my toes as a kid after my mums land rover started to roll slowly while i was helping fill up the screen wash, trapped both my feet between the tyre and the kerb.(dicky handbrake!!)

I chose not to get them sorted as would of been unable to walk for a few month's!!

Still sore now when it's cold, and there all bent like "?" so to speak. Biggest problem growing up was the lack of balance as well

The shoe fitting is a pain in the **** as well, always a size to big or specialist fitting.

Ahh cool, not just me then, I dislocated a finger 3 months ago, popped it back in, came out again a couple of times, which was no fun trying to put it back when it was swollen , and i've been wondering when it would calm down, it's a lot better but I still can't make a tight fist, so I guess i'll just have to keep up the self physio till I force it back, joint's still a bit swollen but life goes on.

Go see a professional FFS

Here's an example of 'self physio'.

About 3 months ago, I developed an uncomfortable(sometimes sore) shoulder.
I though bit of exercise and it would go away.
Decided to see my doctor recently about it, they referred me for physio as they couldn't help.
So I went to physio (privately), turns out I've wrecked muscles in my shoulder by trying to avoid the movement pain by using 'other' muscles.
Seems I'm also going to need surgery on the shoulder blade as a result so they can correct some other damaged muscles/tendons

Lesson learned - don't self treat

Apparently you can break your 5th metatarsal ( small toe ) in one of 3 places - can be quite awkward to heal

Mines split some where near the front, so not so bad. ( as far as I can see ont t'inernet)

Here's an example of perspective-it's a finger!

Ditchmyster- glad I'm not the only one to ignore broken or dislocated fingers! Lol
I couldn't bend mine into a fist either at first but itll do it now, just keep the self-physio going. Apparently scar tissue can form around the joint so massaging it can help break it down. And, actually, I did mention it to my GP when I was there for a different reason and she said it should sort itself out and straighten up, but she did warn me that incorrectly healed joints (and probably more so with your repeated dislocation) can leave you at risk of arthritis in the future.
But, it's a finger at the end of the day.

I have probably done all 3, I know I had fractured a cuboid once and it was touch and go if it needed pinned. Got some pics somewhere
