I have shares but they are in the company I work for, I quite fancy playing on the Stock Market, not talking big money, a couple of grand. Not looking to make vast amounts as I appreciate with a small amount that isnt possible, just thinking of practicing with small volumes and jumping on and off, more for fun than anything.

Any pointers, have heard about penny shares, anyone do that ?

Penny shares have huge spreads on them and a notional 100% gain will be wiped out on the spread. One or two go on to be successful eg Lo-Q or ASOS but the majority are rubbish, and hyped to the gullible

Whichever account you set up look into the transaction costs/admin fees carefully. When dealing in relatively small amounts if the charges are high then any gains can virtually be wiped out.

Good luck and let us know how you get on.
