The Queen's birthday
I had the chance to be able to watch just about all of the Trooping of the Colour.
It is the most amazing spectacle, it is so well done and I doubt there is another country which could put on such a show. It is an indication of the enormous respect that we have for the Queen and is a fitting celebration of her birthday.
She is a very hard working person on the behalf of the people of this country. She promised right at the outset that she would serve our country for as long as she can and she has kept that promise. She has a very strong sense of duty to us and we should be grateful for that.
As ever, the performance by the armed serices to show their respect and loyalty to her is so impressive. A quite outstanding demonstration in my opinion.
She is a very well informed person and is not short of her own sensible ideas as our prime ministers have discovered during their regular meetings with her. They have all said that she is full of excellent ideas when they have had discussions with her about the ways in which we should be governed. Apparently she does not miss a trick!
Her immense popularity was plain to see by the many thousands of people who walked to Buckingham Palace in order to see her on the balcony and to demonstrate their feelings of genuine support to her.
We are very fortunate to have her as our monarch.

If you like all that sort of stuff, May want to check out the Royal Tournament, which last time I checked takes place at either Earls Court or Olympia. Great for kids (and adults).

Ask any tourist in London if we should get rid of the Royals.
They are worth their weight in gold (as if we had any left) to the British economy.
And take tradition away at your peril.
But I do think she should consider bowing out gracefully while she still has her marbles even if it means putting that t,wat Charles in charge.

The monarchy has a great part in making this country such that I would never want to come from anywhere else.
Those who cannot resist whingeing should think on and realise that they could never cope with her workload on behalf of this country. She made a vow to us all when she became Queen 60 years ago and she has never let us down!

I have neither time, nor respect for a family that just happened to be born into their position.
None of them appear to have ANY idea how their "subjects" live, and are amongst THE most pampered people on the planet.
Why? What did ANY of them do to deserve it?
That 62p per person is just, afaik, for the queen etc.
It doesn't cover all the minor royals, now does it?
And as for tourism, just think how much it would INCREASE if we could show people round the royal palaces, estates etc? And charge them for looking, rather than charging us for upkeep?

The castles, palaces etc etc would still need money for upkeep regardless.
And royal buildings are open to tourists now anyway. Buck Pal, Windsor, Tower of london etc bring in £10m's every year.
The cost of the Royal family is negligible compared to what an elected head of state would cost.
An elected head would add nothing to this country other than another layer of bureaucracy and another trough for the political classes to dip their snouts into.
The Royal family is respected worldwide and brings money into this country, often unheralded. They are an asset not a drain.

In fact many people argue that the resultant loss of GDP during these jollies have a negative affect on the economy
But if you think they add to the economy, to our national output, why don't you suggest we have them every couple of weeks
