Yeah, hope so. Sounds just a bit harsh for the 'possible' culprit. What if he wasn't the right man, eh?? 
Then again, when a close-knit, small community speaks (not merely the internet one, I mean), truth can run deeper than the passion alone. So, they might have got the 'real' one, I don't know.
