The Guardian reports that the pilot of the plane that has been diverted to Stansted Airport asked for this to happen because he was concerned about a disruptive passenger who had started shouting.

Apparently two passengers tried to enter the pilot's cabin 20 minutes away from landing at Manchester. I think that's good enough reason to think something dangerous was happening.

They started kicking off apparantly when they were arrested at this end.

They told passengers that it was being diverted due to weather conditions so not to panic them. No heroes on that plane if they dont know whats happening !
Why not just say we have two retards who think its funny to joke about a bomb , feel free to kick the keek out off them as there isnt a bomb.

Seems the media are doing their best to try and make any recent event seem like it is terrorism linked or somehow tenuously linked to the tragic killing of the soldier this week. Even the way this was initially reported seemed to be an effort to wind up the general public!

The British media are, on the whole, scum!

Yeah they've properly gone into overdrive. Listening to the news on the way home from work sounded like they actually want people to freak out completely, just so we read/watch/listen to their product. It aint helping the tension ease....

It is standard procedure to excort the plane with fighters especially when there is the possibility of a hijack by terrorists. In such a case it would be a necessary action.

without giving away any secrets - what can a Typhoon jet actually do should a commercial plane be hijacked?

If its confirmed that its highjacked and gets too close to something I.e a pair of towers or something else that will end up in the death of innocent people, someone higher up (no doubt a minister of some sort) will give the fighter jet authority to blow the passenger jet to pieces before it gets flown into the intended target
