Our Cornwall Holiday

Our Cornwall Holiday
Arrived in cornwall to wind and rain.
Battled through to put the tent up even having to climb under the tent laying on the soaked muddy floor looking for the tent pegs.
- NOT A HAPPY START.
Soon after finishing the sun was out (typical) and it was so calm that no one could belive what the weather was like 5 minutes ago.
After changing into dry clothes and sitting down having a nice tea the holiday could finally begin.
Then out of the blue were hit with Gail's so hard that in minutes 3 poles had snapped, the fabric had ripped and the tent was flooded.
The trailer tent next to us was completely distroyed and luckily the 18month old baby inside was ok. Out of the 6 tents on the site 5 were distoryed.
Fortunately it happened at 8pm as any later and it would have been completly dark and a different story.
Online the weather said 19mph but then as the night went on the weather reports said 40mph.I asked the staff if they were expecting high winds and they were as unaware as we all were.
Being right on the sea front and experiencing such devistation so quickly was pretty shocking. Seeing 15mm tent poles bend like liquorice seeing them snap was shocking. Trying to stop them and then trying to hold the tent down while watching the fabric rip left me feeing hopeless.
The Haven staff were instantly amazing. The on site security came over to assist with clearing everything out of the tents, collecting belongings that were all over the place and helping to dismantle what was left of the tents.
without a question they put us in a caravan with our dogs even though they have a no dogs policy. Had very little sleep with the wind rocking a static caravan it felt alot harder then 40mph. A huge thank you to all of the team at Perran Porth Haven.
I did feel a little weird when one helper passed my muddy white Calvin pants over. It was mud honest.
We are now home a mear 16hrs later with mud soaked cloths, sleeping bags and other belongings dumped in the car that I dread to take out. The amount of mud sand and rain that in on everything is going to be a nightmare.
It could only happen to us.

Did you look at the weather forecast at all?...I know theyll mention 19 mph but they'll also mention gusts
It's these gusts you need to base your plans on tbh .

Thank you. Look at my Facebook page from when they were pups. We were going to breed them to make ultimately cute puppies but her bleeding was a nightmare!
We are considering using our June hols to go back as we had Eden and a few other things planned. Also spent £120 on jabs for the dogs to have kennel cough jab - they didn't end up in the kennels. Never mind

Sounds about right, love cornwall though. The photo with the wave breaking is good, how did you pull that one off unless you have a waterproof camera.
Went to the Isle of Wight last week, had rain in Southampton when we got the ferry but the rest of the week was gorgeous.
Seems that April/May are usually good and then the rest of the summer is sketchy until you get to September.

We watched it come in yesterday; sat on the beach in lovely sunshine with thunder rumbling in the distance. Quite surreal!

Really never get why folk go nuts over cornwall.
Ahem anyway perran, says it all as you've discovered you're very exposed up there.
But the weather has been hit n miss of late, meant to be nice for the next couple days or so.

Well, if you'd like to take the sting out of camping holidays, give Glamping a go! We've got a small camp in South Devon with two traditional Mongolian Yurts.
They have really comfy memory foam beds, a wood burner for the odd chilly night, chairs to sit in etc. We also have a clean flushing toilet, hot shower and a kitchenette for fry ups.
Local pubs are great, and we have trendy Totnes on our doorstep with restaurants, bars, river trips etc.
More good news is a quiet location if you're looking for one, dark skies, and the Devon coast, Torquay etc to explore during the day.
PS, The Ladies love the place, and apparently are inclined to get amorous under canvas!
Check it out, not expensive, and you can even get your Scooby sorted out while you're staying!
