Default Plastic guns?

Ideal, just what we need.
Apparently some stupid yank has helped to develop a weapon you can "print" on a 3D printer.
He calls himself a "crypto anarchist" and says he's "freeing the world"
Well, as anarchy means being able to do what you please without let or hindrance I'm sure he won't mind if I shove his plastic gun up his ar$e.

Saw this on the news about 4 days ago....

They didn't really give much information about it other than it's a plastic gun which you can print out on a 3D printer.

For all we know, it could be about as powerful as a potato shooter? They didn't say what ammo it uses either or anything.

It can use a range of ammo by just printing a different barrel

I watched a video of it being fired and it had some kick, so I assume it would kill.

The other thing that worried me was it can be 100% printed with no metal parts, although in the USA they have to have at least 1 metal part (for detectors) to be legal.

These things are already in the hands of murderers, terrorists, etc which is the scary thing!

Just spent the last 2 weeks in Florida.

Every and I mean every morning on the news there was a shooting reported all were within 50 miles od the Disney area.

That's just one area of one state on local news, the whole of the States must add up to a huge amount of gun related crime or incidents

This was a possibility the moment the 3D printer was invented. You can't really blame someone for using it to make a gun, but it is a sad indictment of Americans.

I guess the only answer is to make getting hold of ammo more difficult, which I think, the US are in the process of doing, which is why ammo sales are through the roof at the moment.

Mine is UK kosher so a little less realistic - flipping powerful though - will hole a can as a fair range (440ft per second)!

Gun laws are odd here - I can buy an exact Beretta copy in metal that fires ball bearings without any license or anything. And anyone can use it. But a much less harmful plastic BB gun needs to have lumo bits or else a UKARA license is needed!!

The craziest thing is crossbows - mega power, no problem killing someone - no licence needed at all!!

If the sign at the range is the same range they used then this will be .22 rimfire, makes sense as well as this calibre is quite popular in the U.S.A for self defence.

In the UK .22 rimfire in LR or long rifle ( don't think of a long rifle, it's just the type of bullets name ) is the entry level and cheapest form of recreational shooting with weapons ranging from hunting rifles to replica MP5 weapons

Now if they have used a .22 WMR calibre then that a whole lot more powerful, still rimfire so no need for a difficult to construct firing pin that goes through the centre of the bolt so very easy to construct.

Both calibre are more than capable killers with the LR @ up to 1640ft per sec and the WMR @ 2200ft per sec

As and when they move up to a bigger calibre I assume they will have to use a special plastic or the breech will probably explode in their face

look on utube they have allready made a 600rounds per min ar15 out of plastic. the only part you need a licence to buy is the bottom reciever, the rest is freely available ( barrel top reciever stock etc. its been tested and fired on full auto with a 3d plastic bottom reciever, and if you know what you are doing the bb firing ar15 bottom reciever can be converted to fire 7.62mm and fitted to the other legally bought parts so nothing new

if i recall correctly there was a csi on about two weeks ago where a contract killer had a 3d printed plastic gun.
surely going to be more of these designs coming up in the future, inevitable i suppose but a sad way for technology to be used.

Anyone can buy a gun anywhere they want if they want it bad enough so what difference will it make? Other than as said airport security etc...

Its a crap load cheaper to buy an illegal gun than a 3D printer...

I'd better start working on that Uzi equipped personal mini drone then.
I have a 15 year old COD expert at home, he'll blow all of you away from his bedroom..

Not sure what the fuss is about I have had a plastic gun for years, shoot different types of rounds, good for close quarters and long range sniping and can unload a 30 round clip in one second and doubles up as a grenage/rocket launcher.....deadly!!

I'm not talking about your well connected terrorist/murderer. I'm talking about the type that if they had the means, will shoot and kill people IF they had a gun.

Not everyone can walk into a dodgy pub and get one. Now they can make their own or soon will be able to when the price of 3D printers comes down to the level of a home inkjet, which it will.

Hm.

Reality check.

Any person with a lathe and some basic skills can make something that will shoot every time very easily.

The 3D printer is what £5 to £10k? A cheap lathe off e-bay £300.... hmm.

I would rather fire something thats made from steel than plastic...

Second, "printing" your 9mm plastic gun might be fairly easy - once you find the £10k needed... but buying the ammo... hmm now thats the problem.

You cant print gun powder!!

And if you have the connections to buy the 9mm brass on the street then you have the connections to buy the G17 too..

Can a 10yr old kid upload a readily available file into your cheap lathe and get a ready made gun out of it?

I'll save you the trouble of answering a tell you the answer is NO.

the whole point to this 3d stuff was all the parts including ammo can be bought in the usa without a licence, the bottom reciever is the part that requires a licence, only in some states can you own a full auto version, massive fine and prison if found to be in possesion of a full auto without licence, in fact a ex us marine has been done for it after his ar15 malfunctioned on a range and emptied a full mag on auto after jamming, and he wasn't even using it a friend was
