I came back from Oz promising myself an R8 or Gts, one day one day

Suprised you have no pics of lowered Forresters with spinners, seemed the car of choice for the young lads when we lived out there and there were loads of them, looked foofing awful

No mot ,really.!?

The French have suddenly told my Aus brother in law he's gotta sit their driving test ( and given him time limits to get license. ..! )

This is after having lived there for 15 + years. and had australia license for 20

Cant recall seeing one , that said the bar / restaurant as we walked into the marina, served the most fantastic wedges & dips, a huge bowl went between 3 of us not bad for $10

My Sis and brother inlaw have uk licences as do there eldest son,, it was just a paperwork excersise for them,

My Niece has to go the whle hog and sit a test out there, P plates and all!

Yes i thought the MOT bit was strange, but my brother in law said that

they get very few incidents relating to car structural integrity etc.

Given that corrosion is almost zilch, there cars last a long time

I woulden't imagine their cars would suffer death by salt like ours do...

But the outback is a bit hard on the balljoints/track rods/bushings/shocks/springs etc.

I still have a stain ingrained into the plastic of my Samsonite suitcase from a puddle of mud the bus drove through and leaked into the baggage store whilst travelling to Alice Springs on a dirt road. Been over ten years since I went and the stain is still there..Nothing will shift it! Can't imagine what it does to the underside of cars!

Ah yes the Indian Ocean Brewing Company.... nice bar/restaurant

The Inidan restaurant is futher round, it was really rather good, but I just don't think the locals really get the Inidan food thing so I wouldn't be surprised if it was no longer there.

The thing with Perth is it is a very rich city, most cars there are either newish or well loked after. There is no MOT as such, but the police can and will seize an unroadworthy vehicle. As such most veihcles tend to be well maintained and indeed without the salt on the roads or the amount of rain cars don't tend to corrode like they do here.

The police can also seize your vehicle if you are speeding although this rarely happens except in extreme cases. That said the threat of draconian punishment does keep most people to doing no more than 10% over the limit.

The Scoob scene is big in Aus too, plenty of all models of Impreza kicking around and the hatch sells well there too in all guises (not just performance variants).... I guess nowhere is pefect

Any car that is over 5 years old requires an annual inspection which is known as your "Pink Slip" which is pretty much an MOT. I know because my wifes Mazda failed without your pink slip you cant get insurance in NSW.

I might vary from state to state but I doubt it.

Isn't it supposed to be the most cut off city on the planet?

We're off to see girlfriend daughter in Melbourne end next year

That is correct . But if you fail to licence the vehicle each year , the vehicle has to be inspected before it is allowed back on the road.

That's probably why my old MD registered his cars in WA at his father in law's addr, saved money on the pink slip.

The Indi is a 5 minute drive/20 minute walk from my place Yep, the Indian is still there though not tried it.

@FM: if you're after an R8 or GTS you'll also have to shave your head, grow a goatee and where an Acca Dacca t-shirt under a very tasteful checked shirt Or am I just stereotyping?

We were in Ocean Reef, it was great to hear V8's been given some stick once the nights drew in,

Lots of nice tyre tracks laid down in the mornings

I'd go tommorow, its an amazing place

My all time favourite OZ motor is the Chrysler Valiant Charger R/T. Fabulous looking car and even better in the metal.

Those were the days.
Chuck in a couple of Ford GTHOs, Torana XU-1s and we are ready to head to the mountain.
