It would be more correct to say the there is a presumption of innocence in the eyes of the law.
In effect, this means that the onus is on the prosecution to prove it's case and not for the accused to prove their innocence.
I don't think that is quite the same as innocent until proven guilty, but others may beg to differ.
Saying someone is a rapist before that person was found guilty of such a crime would not be libellous/actionable, although if they were found innocent, such a statement might be.
Having said that - I fully agree with the sentiment of your post.

So what you are saying is basically; If you were as famous as most of these alleged predators were in the seventies, and some girl claiming to be 16 or 17 offered herself to you on a plate, you'd say 'actually love, I'll pass', I don't think so

I know there will have been young girls, and boys, who will have been preyed upon and assaulted. But all these cases are doing is trivialising their ordeals

I don't think we know what went on so speculating that on the one hand he's a great guy and it's a few groupies out to make a fast buck or on the other that he's a sick twisted rapist is equally futile not to mention potentially libelous and a bit daft given the sensitivity of the subject under discussion.

Still that's the beauty of the kangaroo courts that are Internet forums!
