Default i love stories like this

with all the sh1te in the world, it is these little nuggets of compassion/empathy etc that restore faith in humanity

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-london-21719848

A 40-year-old "mind the gap" recording once heard across the Tube is returning to one station - so the widow of the actor behind it can hear his voice.
London Underground director Nigel Holness said: "Transport for London were approached by the widow of Oswald Laurence to see whether she could get a copy of the iconic 'mind the gap' announcement her husband made over 40 years ago.

"We were very touched by her story, so staff tracked down the recording and not only were they able to get a copy of the announcement on CD for her to keep but are also working to restore the announcement at Embankment station."

"Mind the Gap"

fantastic

(might be a londoners only thread)

I lived in London from early to mid 90's, and I remember the announcement. It went like "MIND_ _ _ _ THE_ _ GAP". Very well done with just the right gaps. I used to like it. I think it is the same one.

Good story.

Definitely.

A big effort has been made for this lady for it involves the staff rummaging through old records to satisfy her emotional request. They could have always given her some red-taped answers (they're also like pre-recorded messages but with a rejection; they're so anticipated and set)- "Sorry, too busy" or "Sorry, all got thrown" etc. But they didn't. Brilliant doing, that.
