Im no fishing expert, so what on earth does it mean?

so, the idea is to not have 'discard' policies. Small size etc is still protected, yet those fish they catch and arnt licensed for they wont have to throw back, they are dead so don't survive anyway.

so why would they resists this? surley means less wastage?

It would also allow maybe 7% of fish to be discarded
More to the point how would they know how much fish a crew discarded? Are there now going to be inspectors on each boat?

Presumably there is some limit on the size of a catch - whether that is an EU legal limit or whatever the boat can carry.

I assume if they land all catches it will have to include fish of low re-sale value. With the current process if they fish and catch say 77% of what they want (the valuable stuff) and chuck the other 23% back (low value stuff). You've then space to re-fish and fill up your quota.

By putting a ban on discards, they will have to land all fish caught and won't be making as much money.
