How do Travellers ...
.... get Insurance?
Some call them Pikeys - either way, how do they get Car Insurance?
Now, I know plenty will say they have no cover .... but, if that's the case, why are their vans still running around in full view of ANPR Cameras?
What do they declare as their Occupation? .... maybe Landscape Gardener? Tarmacing? Rip-Off Merchant? Maybe?

Every Pikey I see always have brand new cars/vans, so either they're knicked and on false plates making them appear legal, or they earn loads Tarmac'ing and roofing. Or no doubt stealing and conning.
For the false plates idea, that's probably why they drive so badly. Get a fixed camera ticket, and some innocent driver gets a letter set to their house.

They dont pay road tax, they are all on DLA and getting their vans and jeeps through various different government freebies. There will be one "handicapped" or "special needs child" in every family that will require special travel arrangements to take it to its various hospital appointments. Occasionally a handicapped child will be shared amongst many families as it is an excellent financial asset.

Most pikeys have a permanent address somewhere....Their grans house or whatever, and often with loads and loads of people all using the same address.
Some of the semi-permanent camp sites offer postal addresses too.
Most of them will have some kind of trade policy that allows them to drive any car.

I agree. I am willing to be swayed in favour of 'travellers'.
Unfortunately, I have ,as yet, not heard of anyone having a positive experience when encountering these people.
Please feel free to post any evidence to the contrary.

My ex wife was walking in the local park with our son. There was a group of pikey scum parked up on land next to the park. While walking a dog ran up to my ex and it bit her on the calf muscle taking a chunk of flesh. She screamed and a couple of pikey pikelings came from the camp site and started calling the dog, which turned and ran to them.
After coming back from the hospital we went to the police station to make a complaint. We spoke to a very nice sergeant who took down all the information. He then took us aside and told us nothing would be done about the pikey dog or the pikey owners because they would play the race card, and it was too much hassle for such a minor incident, especially as the pikies always managed to get their own way. It's great that the police failed to act upon a legitimate complaint because they were afraid of being accused of being racists.
Pikies to me, are not only scum but protected scum it seems.

I live and work in a little town called Appleby. Once a year we are lucky enough to host, against our will, a little event known as Appleby horse fair. During this time quite a few thousand travellers set up camp in and around the town. I work in one of the towns hotels, have done for past 10 years, and during that week we are about 60% occupied with travellers, families mainly and a few couples. Most of them have been staying there longer than I've worked there and I've got to say some of them are the nicest people I've ever met, traveller or not. Their kids are polite and well mannered and we never get any trouble from them. Unfortunately I can't defend the entire traveller community, the fair does come with its problems, just saying there are a few nice ones amongst them.

My only first hand experience of travellers is not great sadly.
About 15 years ago my mate was in his back garden and heard his Shogun starting up round the front of the house. He ran through the house to see his vehicle heading down the road. Turns out whoever had pinched it had walked into the house and lifted the keys from the table in the kitchen.
On telling me this a day or two later I said it was probably the travellers who had set up camp a few miles on the other side of town and had been causing a lot of local trouble... a mini crimewave in fact. He had reported it to the police who had pretty much said the same thing and said they would look into it.
I suggested we go down there and take a look. So a few hours later armed with a set of binoculars we were up on the hillside scouring the campsite for a sighting of his Shogun (well you didn't think I was going to march in there and ask to have a look around did you? ).
Sure enough there it was in the middle of the site next to a nice shiny caravan albeit it had no plates on by now.
So my mate decided to go and get it. Armed with 3 lads who worked for him (two of which were ex football hooligan types) and his two german shepherds (soft as anything, but they look the part) and me in tow to keep a look out we arrived there at 1am.
Looking like a scene out of ****** I hung back to rasie the alarm if anything happened (glad I got that job to be honest LOL) and they marched up to the vehicle. My mate got in using the spare key and started it up.... he then told the other lads to jump in quick, but the two psycho types decided they wanted to get his keys back so decided to enter the caravan and get them... that was when it all went a bit Pete Tong.
A huge melee ensued in the caravan and the lads emerged victorious if a little battered and bruised, but then the whole campsite seemed to wake up and it was pandemonium with dogs running every where (including my mate's GSDs) people falling over each other and various punches being thrown. Somehow we all got out with the Shogun and the keys and the dogs although the two 'psycho' types were pretty beaten and battered .... as they said those pikey f**kers can fight!!!
To be honest it was bloody nervewracking being chased by a group of mental pikies .... I can laugh about it now, but then it was bloody scary!
My mate rang the police to tell them he had 'found and recovered' his Shogun... they didn't seem to want to know any more about it. I guess they don't like to get involved with travellers then

I'd have been unable to sleep worrying that they remembered where the car came from, expecting a friendly knock on the door and a double barrel smiling me in the face.

Yep me too, but my mate isn't made that way. No way I would have done it if they knew my address. I did suggest he just tell the police and let them retrieve it, but he didn't seem to have much confidence that would happen!
