OK - 2012 best movie
I have seen Lincoln and was mesmerised by DDL's portrayal of the President AL.
The intensity of Argo kept me on the edge of my seat until the final moments.
Les Mis - Not into heavy musicals , so not my cup of tea.
Can't comment on the others .
But for me ,the sheer majesty of the cinematography of this movie left me spell bound - I was absolutely gob smacked by The Life of Pi .

I really like 'The Words' as a thought provoking film...no exploding barrels or Hollywood special effects, just a good watch that I didn't think id enjoy
Also (in stark contrast!) 'Wild Bill' was great too, Id recommend both
Oh and 'Flight'....apart from the daft upside plane bit!

Dredd - though it very good, faithful to the source material
Django unchained - another good one from QT
Blood For Irina - ok, it is a short and no theatrical release, and I would be very surprised if anyone else on here has seen it, but I found it to be a very good experimental film

Am I the only one that thought Life of Pi was mediocre?
Admittedly, I didn't see the 3D version, but I thought, that film was boring. I couldn't even watch it all as I fell asleep with boredom.
Lincoln on the other hand totally blew me away. Half way through, a thought entered my mind that this film deserves a load of awards. A friend of mine watched 20mins and said that was enough.
What constitutes a good film is completely subjective.

Lincoln was a great film, haven't many others this year, so can't compare. Although I think I saw the worst film of 2012, Nativity 2 OMG that was terrible

I actually enjoyed Battleship - yes you had to fully suspend belief - but it was a great action film, those missile cannisters were great on the surround sound
I thought SkyFall was a bit ho-hum TBH, and I usually really like Bond....
Real Steel was surpisingly good too, the kids also really enjoyed it a great 'family' film, as was 'We bought a Zoo'
But my kids would vote for Hotel Transylvania as best - they *love* that film
Can't beat a bit of comedy vampire action when your 7 & 9 - lol

I think Dredd is far more faithful to source but you can see why many people think it was bobbins. For faithful to source it was good, for an action film it was poor and hampered by a low budget.
Prometheus for all its failings is probably my favorite of 2012.
Dark Knight Rises was OK but probably the weakest of the 3 films.
Battleship is good mindless action.
Avengers Assemble was good and I particularly liked the guy playing Dr Banner - much closer to how Banner should be portrayed than the other attempts.
I very much enjoyed The Grey. I've mentioned before whats happening with me at home and a certain part in this film has me in floods of tears (and I don't think its even meant to be sad as such it just enforces why he is the way he is)
I also thought Total Recall got a raw deal. It isn't that bad.
Man on a Ledge is 2012 and that was good. Safe House is good and I think a 2012 film.
Can't think of anything else that stands out.

Been some good films in 2012 but Im shocked one has been missed out by everyone so far here. Most will not have seen it as it did go under the radar but I thought "The Perks of Being a Wallflower" was fantastic and probably made my film of the year. Shame Ezra Millar didnt get a nomination for best supporting actor in this. Give it a try
