Default Shooters.....advice please

As title....

Put a shotgun up for sale last night , had a few emails off a trader in Hertfordshire

Now this is the first shotgun I've sold
After several emails to each other and me sending pics of every square inch of it , he says he will have it

The bits I'm not clued up on....
1 ; he wants to pay direct into my bank acc (requires details)...this bit I'm ok with
2 ; he wants me (after payment is made) to send him the shotgun

"who do I send it with".............postie pat
I've just had bloody kids skylanders go missing with royal mail........imagine the **** I will get if a 12 bore 'goes missing'

Now before the pi55 takers start with daft replys the above is a genuine question , it took me 5 years to get my cert granted to me so everything has to be a 'perfect' sale

How's the best way to send a shotgun from Doncaster to Hertfordshire
And also has anyone sold one online before......regarding the paperwork

I've only every sold mine to gun shops but I'm sure that you need to fill out the back of his shot gun licence and then send a letter to mr plod to notife them that you have sold a gun and he now has it I would seek proper advice before doing any thing. D you have proof he even holds a valid shot gun licence ?

I may be wrong here, but I am sure my brother in law who owns a a few firearms including shotguns said that you can only send them from a registered firearms dealer to another registered firearms dealer and the courier used in the UK is usually TNT as most others don't want to carry them although I believe Parcelforce will too.

A courier would be the best option as its tracked and insured, he wants it sending, he can pay for it. I would ask the police about it too im sure if you explain the situation they may be able to offer advice, if not try your local gun club, see if they have experience with that sort of thing. i would also ask the courier company if they are comfortable handling it.

I have no idea, but to be honest I would stay very clear of selling a registered gun privately as I imagine you are held in some way liable if his documents are false and/or he goes on a rampage and kills someone.

The gun can only be delivered to a RFD so it's pretty safe as the end user should be verified by the accepting RFD......

Cheers for the replys
Yes he's a registered firearms dealer.....I knew I'd advertised it to cheap
Was the first thing I checked after his first email

He says it's easy as he is a rfd

I'd rather be cautious than make a stupid mistake over this

I will double check with the old bill at Sheffield on Monday just to make sure my front door stays the way it is

They are useless pal....when euroguns went bust they had my gun in their possession and the local plod didn't have a clue/nor were they bothered.
I had to contact Sheffield and deal through them to regain possession of it.

Sheffield are like a normal office mon/fri 9 til 5......I was after some info now

Ring and ask your local fireams officer. He should have given you his card when he inspected your gun cabinet.

Give your local gunshop a ring, it may be that transport can be arranged through them.
If you buy long distance from a dealer then normal procedure is he sends it to your local dealer/shop where the paperwork is completed and you collect the gun.

I assume you have the info you needed from the links etc ( not read them all ) but yes as already stated you can only send a firearm/shotgun through registered firearms dealer, take it to you local gunshot they will package the gun, contact the other parties RFD then sort the details etc should cost around £40 to send.

I'm expecting plod tomorrow for home inspection for my shotgun renewal (5 years) basically all this means is I've got half a day off work

Regards

Mick

If I was you I would forward the emails to your fire arms officer who will certainly want a word with the buyer for suggesting to you that you should package it and send it yourself. He is asking you to break the law!!

You must, as has been stated above take it and hand it over in person to your registered firearms dealer (local gun shop, sometimes the local rifle range or clay ground if they sell guns). The RFD will then sort a transfer to the RFD who is buying it. The RFD you take it to will sort the paperwork as far as your ticket is concerned (he will register in his log that you have handed the gun over). You also need to inform your issuing police force that you have sold the gun and who it has gone to.

is he for real??

Can you imagine explaining that one to plod when the parcel goes missing and there's been an armed robbery with a gun that's on your ticket!!

People never cease to amaze me.

I had my home inspection yesterday for my shotgun renewal and it seemed much more thorough and strict than ever before, not that it shouldn't be of course but something's obviously changed after a string of shootings recently.
