Question Integrated fridge just packed in.......

Doesn't owe me amything, it's 22 years old and has never missed a beat, Electrolux bought from the old Electricity Showroom.

Anyway, the Freezer below it is the same vintage, and definitely NOT frost free.....and all the drawer fronts have broken, and cannot now be sourced.
But it still works.

So..........

Do I replace the fridge with, say, a Bosch at £380?
Or replace both with a Beko, combined but two door, frost free, "A" energy rating, 2 years parts and labour guarantee....£338 delivered?

And once again, I have to ask, WHY do integrated appliances, with no outer parts, cost 50% more than one made to stand under a counter????

If it was me, I'd change both. Newer models will be far more efficient.

Bought this a year ago if we get 5 years out it will be chuffed, BTW it has the coldest fridge part ever thermostat set at half way and its about 1-2 degrees. Its 60 wide a bonus, cheap as chips

Yep, they owe me nothing.
I think they were around £200 each back then, even, being the first ever without a compressor as such, no moving parts.

But no-one repairs fridges any more......

When our integrated packed in we replaced it with a cheap Fridgemaster, wasn't that expensive compared to Bosch etc.

Well actually the old fridge didn't die...the concealed element/evaporator came unstuck from the the back of the fridge, so it didn't cool very well, so no good for keeping raw meat. Made by Philips...bought in 1986...still works today in my shed keeping the beer reserves cool

They still make the same fridge up until recently...just re-branded as Ignis, the only flaw in the design is the condensor fan behind the kick panel would get clogged with fluff, so needed vacuuming every five years or so

When we had a new kitchen the Fridgemaster went to the office at work, and the Philips built-in freezer was sold on ebay for £20. Having both been replaced by a freestanding Samsung frost free fridge freezer.

The Samsung has to be the most noisiest fridge/freezer I have ever heard...the 26 year old Philips fridge, the 26yr old Philips Freezer and the Fridgemaster fridge are all pretty much silent in comparison...another reason why I hate anythig made by Samsung...they always look good, and seem ok on paper, but in practice always disapoint in at least one area or another. For FFS Samsung make compressors, so why TF does this one make such a racket, I've installed quieter outdoor condensor units for office air conditioning.

Edit: Just googled and found out that the owners of Fridgemaster / Frigidaire went bump in 2012

Mine did exactly the same thing, I think the belt came off the drum, made a hell of a noise, danced about and shook a bit and then just died. It was always dodgy on full spin.

There's a reason for that, you're mistaken the washing machine for a fridge.

Fridges, washing machines dishwashers, seen one you've seen them all.

I've got fond memories of my mums dolly tub and mangle which expired in 1964. I was only 4 at the time and it was a shock that most people would struggle to come to terms with.

I have a mop that I bought in 1974 and the heads just dropped off, now my dilemma is do I buy just the head or do I splash out on a brand new mop?

I wouldn't buy a new one; I'd just replace the head and handle, then it should be good for another 39years

That all very well but if the interface design of each component is incorrect then I could be buying a whole lot of trouble
