Death Row - confused!
Just watching the programme with Trevor Macdonald - it just seems a little odd to me that someone can be put on death row and remain there for years and years!
At the prison that Trev is in the last person to be put to death was in 2009! Surely if you are put on death row then that's if for you! Give em a set amount of time and then execute - what am I missing?

Yep, the maths of the Death Penalty in the US are pretty astonishing, if you take the trouble to look at them in detail. In a country with a consistent average of over 15,000 murders per year for the past few decades, there have been on average less than 90 executions actually carried out per year, since capital punishment was brought back in 1976. You're in fact 25 times more likely to be shot on the street by a cop in the US than to get it from a lethal injection or the electric chair, statistically

Yeah, not many people actually get the lethal injection but they'll never get out.
When they're sentenced to life, theyre in for life not bloody 12 years. This country is a joke.
Last weeks episode was better. There was a guy sentenced to 176years with parole at age 100.
They don't fanny about like they do over here.

The more you look at the US the more you find that they are not all they seem.
They have more children in prison with life sentences without parole than any other country.
In the United States each year, children as young as 13 are sentenced to spend the rest of their lives in prison without any opportunity for release. Approximately 2,570 children are sentenced to juvenile life without parole or "JLWOP" in the United States. Despite a global consensus that children cannot be held to the same standards of responsibility as adults and recognition that children are entitled to special protection and treatment, the United States allows children to be treated and punished as adults.
and this:
UN Convention on the Rights of the Child.
the United States is one of only two U.N. member countries not to have ratified the original Convention (the other country is Somalia — which doesn’t have a functioning government.)

I watched last nights show and in my eyes someone who slits the throats of a mother and a four year old girl deserves a leathal injection to which even the convict agreed.
Our prisons appear to be more of a retreat for some, a chance to catch up with old friends with free bed and breakfast, lunch and an evening meal thrown in.

I may be confused but I think this was the guy with a 150 year sentence.
So I think to say that he has it better than us is a tad doubtful
