Default B&Q Colours paint

Is pure rubbish! In attempt to save a fiver and have now cost myself an additionaly £15 in petrol and extra paint due to the amount of coats that needs to be applied.

Proof that sometimes its worth reading the internet reviews before you buy something rather than after.

I wanted to setting up my home cinema room today rather than STILL painting the goddamn walls.

Dulux Diamond Matt is the best paint out there - talk to any professional decorator. A bit pricey but well worth the money for a good hard-wearing finish.

Definitely Dulux next time, tried and tested. I've got one more wall to do in the home cinema room which is a different colour to the rest and I loath to start it.

Have already drafted in the sisters boyfriend to do my living room as I hate painting so much I think its worth paying someone to do.

Get the trade version of dulux also as I hear the stuff you buy off the shelf is thinner. I have a painter who told me this!

Correct.

I'm just a DIY-er with my home decorating, but even I can tell that B&Q are one sh!te make of paints.

Yep!

I'll give the Diamond edition by Dulux (suggested by Scud8) a go next time.

B&Q's own paint is very poor quality. it requires several re-coatings. Its like watching the paint dry, and then do it all over; again and again! You might as well buy Dulux or Crown.

I once bought B&Q Magnolia to cover our pale yellow walls. It said on the paint tub that two coats would do the job prim and proper. But no! Yellow kept showing its ugly shade from underneath, even after 4 effing coats! I was at the end of my tether by then, so I went out and bought myself Dulux paint to sort it. Since then, I only buy Dulux or Crown. I took B&Q silly paints to the skips, they were good for sod all.

Same with any of the own branded stuff these days.....

Tesco value baked beans taste crap
Asda lemonade is like water
Homebase branded power tools last a month

etc etc.... you can say it about anything. You buy cheap, you get ****. My motto is always buy the best you can afford.

Little Greene Paint Co. paint is even better than Dulux.

You'll pay handsomely for it though.

Oh, right! Never heard of it before, but must give it a try sometimes.

There are exceptions. One person told me that 10p Tesco Value batter mix for pancakes absolutely rocks! I couldn't believe the price. I only had 10p to lose, so I gladly gave it a try. I got 8 non-stick pancakes out of one pack for some of our guests. The guests thought they were great with Ben n' Jerry icecream in the middle and minging strawberry sauce all over, yuk! I had one without any ice-cream and sugary sauce. It tasted kinda alright, just a bit plasticated.

Other than that, we all know that Valentines Day is approaching fast. Depending upon how loving and pampering you are to your partners, Tesco's very own cards may do the job for you.

Wierd, have just finished painting our bedroom with Crown matt paint.

TBH would normally buy B&Q stuff, but did'nt have the colour we wanted and it was 25% off all Crown paints, it was thick! Like frickin golden syrup..... Covered well though!

Only complaint it smelt absolutely RANK!... Like rotten eggs, real bad!

This is a very big positive of the B&Q Colours paint, it hardly smells at all.

PS. I just checked the room there and I have to say it looks loverly now. Really nice chocolatey brown colour, perfect for watching films in.

Tried to mount the projector to the ceiling earlier but couldn't find a beam to attach it too, will get a stud finder tomorrow, fit the screen and then wire her all up and hopefully by Wednesday/Thursday I'll be able to come home from work and play Hitman in 90inches of awesomeness!

So, <PSLewis mode on/> fill yer boots, people!</off> I must say that after sending that card to anyone, one must not expect wining, dining or anything else in return with them. I didn't.

I don't think that is true. There will be times when own brand stuff is rubbish, but the same goes for some branded items.

I use own brand paint (not B&Q) and it seems perfectly good to me. I'm no professional decorator but I've used it for some time now and compared to Dulux and other branded paints, I can't say they're any better.

Dulux satin sheen I think it's called it really good.
Tried a tester pot of b&q paint but didn't like the shade when it dried or the coverage.

Take this advice, while Dulux is a reasonably good paint, go try Johnstones Paint if you have a trade centre near by.
I find it far better than Dulux

While you're moaning about B&Q, also avoid Homebase stuff, its equally as crap

AVForums is a good place for stuff like this.

I used to use an Ikea blind in the past - used to do the job and a damn sight cheaper

Some of the pictures in the Member's Home Cinema Gallery are to die for!! Your thread is making me want to put my projector up too now ... been sat off the ceiling for the last 6 months since our house move! Might just be time to dig it out

I chose B&Q paint simply because they had the colour I was after ... couldn't believe my eyes when I painted my son's nursery and the paint seemed to magically vanish. Don't enjoy painting at the best of times and that just made it a lot harder than it needed to be - Never again!

**** B&Q up its ***. Bought a pack of screws and raw plugs from this turd palace of pish and twice now the screws snapped whilst using them. Then due to sheer irratation when I did get my projector screen on the wall it wasn't level because I just did a pissed off rush job.

Wall now polyfilled and I will start fresh tomorrow when I'm not so pissed off!

Daddyscoob, its a Optoma 90” pull down screen. Its one of there newer screens and its not very good imo. The edges started curling very quickly when I first bought it. Wouldn't recommend them.
