iPhone 4 vs iPhone 4S
Looking to get the wife a iPhone for her birthday.
Her phone currently is old and only makes calls.
Looking at the 4 vs 4s and there seems to be a big difference in price. Is the 4s worth the extra money (£120)
Im sure the 4 would be ok for her, but will aple stop the upgraded software at some point for the 4
What are your thoughts ?

I have got a 5 for my son for Christmas.
As the wife hasn't had an iPhone before I thought the 4 would be ok. I'm more worried about it not being able to be updated a year or 18 months down the line.
Anyone got a white one for sale ? (New)

I think one of the only reasons the 3GS got iOS 6 is because US networks (possibly Canadian ones too) were sill offering it a a zero dollar phone. I think it's still on the list for iOS 6.1, but I'd say anything beyond that, e.g.; 6.5 (if there is one) is likely to be iPhone 4 or above.
iPhone 4 doesn't have Siri, the 4S does, there are also some things in iOS 6 that the 4 doesn't get (look at the bottom of this page.
It all depends on what features you want / need. I've still got a 3GS, running iOS 6.0.1, and will have it until at least the 5S appears at which point I'll decide what to do. I was tempted by upgrading to a 5, but it was a case of wanting it, rather than needing it, the 3Gs makes calls, runs the apps that I need, which are very, very few (mainly mail and safari).
Personally I'd go for the 4S, it's only one generation behind the newest, so will still have a bit of life in it, even when the 5S comes out mid next year. Oh if you're getting it, make sure it's unlocked, means you can switch networks without too much hassle.

Many thanks.
I guess it all comes down to do I see the value of the extra (£120)
And to be honest I don't.
Her phone currently is a Samsung that just makes call. So I'm guessing the iPhone 4 will be words apart for her.

I have both and Siri apart (pointless) I can't tell the difference. If there is a speed difference it is not noticeable on anything I have used it for...

I also have a 3 account.
Vodafone need good deals otherwise no one would buy one, their network coverage is atrocious. The other day I drove from 15 miles west of Swansea all the way to Evesham, 90 % on the motorway, and a five hour round trip. For the entire journey we had 3G coverage for less than 15 minutes whereas on 3 it was 100% 3G.

I have a 4, MrsD has a 4S. Her camera takes ever so slightly better pictures and she never uses Siri, nothing I've seen about the 4S or the 5 has made me think about upgrading.
PS; Never mind 3G, Vodafone's entire network coverage in Wales is appalling

Yeah Siri is ****e in my opinion, don't ever use it, the 4s is quicker and although its more now it'll also be worth more come resale.
As it goes I'm trying android now, nexus 4, contract free and factory unlocked for £279, worth a shot as said before I can't see any reason to upgrade to a 5

It's just so much quicker when loading pages of the Internet and that is the main pleasure of it that extra second or two
Also I found the camera was a clearer picture as we had the 4s& 4 together for a couple of months and the 4 just felt so old hat
Email access I found a split second quicker too which is a part of the user experience
Just go the whole hog and get the iPhone 5 for her and she will love you long time

I went from the 4 to the 5 and noticed the latter was far more able when browsing the Internet. The 4 used to struggle on RLFans when trying to post, it took a while loading the smilies, the 5's fine and I assume the 4s would also have been an improvement.
