hey all hoping you can help

got an indoor cat thats never been outside

anyway over last week noticed random itchy spots appearing.

complained bwt them but didnt know what they were, would be one a day. then today mrs gets one.. and runs to cat and notices one or two alive and eggs etc.

i thort yeah u cow take notice now you got bitten lol anyway whats best way to get rid?

just went and got some frontline for the cat and a flea coller. and a pack of johnsons flea fogger for the rooms.

just done that after mrs has done a good hoover. is that everything? will they come back? they seem to love biting chunks outta me.

how do i make sure they dont come back? any industrial sprays? should we keep cat in one room till the second front line treatment? will isolating help. or should we be ok now?

Frontline is the best out there, you can get spray if you like to spray on furniture if you want but they will go eventually anyway.
Time of year, also flea them every 3 months to keep on top.
Frontline kills them all, even your Subaru lol

Nah should be ok, we don't anyway, the fleas etc will be jumping off in the next day or two and after a week or so should be gone.
So watch out that the fleas don't jump on you to keep on living lol but they will just die as they need somewhere to live I.e your cat. Just get missus to Hoover daily for the next week or two, or infact the rest of her life

 

wash all bedding -- yours and the cats.......!

Don't bother with Frontline, you're just paying for the brand name. The active ingredient in Frontline is fipronil, so look for any flea treatment with fipronil as its active ingredient.
If I was you I'd also buy a spray containing permethrin such as Vetkem aclaim, Indorex, Staykil or RIP fleas. There are hints on youtube on where and how to apply it. Its effective for up to a year.

of the fleas: not while you have a cat, learn to live with them, the eggs can last TEN YEARS in your carpets!

 

Yes, my post above was semi-serious. We have a cat and no carpets. Front-line once a month (to the cat) and we have not been bitten with this set-up.

 

I had this problem a few years ago with a cat we brought that had fleas brought them into the house was a nightmare we brought summot off eBay called a flea bomb u place it in the room and close all the doors it killed off every single little bugger bathed the cat using flea shampoo and put a decent flea collar on him one of those rubber ones that stink lol and was problem free ever since hope this helps mate

 

My mate had a cat.
They did all the above.

The cat went into a cattery for 2 weeks in the summer, they went away.

When they came back, they walked into the house and their little lad screamed, there were fleas jumping out of the carpet to get on him

The cat was still in the cattery......

Fleas can live outside for 6months without food! so keep on top of the treatments!

We never had a problem with fleas until we went a way and hand a random look after jack. We came back of hols to him scratching and thought nothing of it. Had a closer inspection and found him riddled with the buggers. 9:30 on a sunday and floored it to Tesco. Purchased every flea product going and douced him.
Since we have been using advocate (i think) every 3 months and fortunatly they have never come back.

Hoover often to suck up any straglers!

 

Advocate (made by Bayer) is definitely the best, but also the most expensive, and you can't normally get anywhere except direct from the vet's. Saves money in the long-run IMO though, as the same treatment also kills all the main kinds of worms that cats can get.

 

Agree, I used to use Frontline on all my cats and my dog, but then noticed fleas on the cats. Vet told me they had started seeing a resistance to Frontline and recommended Advocate. No fleas since. Also use a spray such as RIP fleas once a year on the carpets and vacuum regularly.

 

Frontline, room fogger then hoover every couple of days and then maybe refog the room again.

Serious infestations are a pain in the *** to get rid of, but with it being an indoor cat you should find that is enough to get rid.

Mine had exactly the same and he's an indoor cat as well. Done as aboe and not had issues since.

 

O also just to add, the products mentioned, frontline/advocate etc arn;t always effective on there own (some fleas are resistant) if it doesn;t work speak to the vet and maybe try the other brand. (although its rare they don't)

 

Frontline does work,but it is expensive I think.

How can an indoor cat get fleas?

Have one of you got fleas and brought them in the house somehow?

 

Fleas do not like or live on humans, well cat fleas anyways.
Put Frontline on the cat and when the cat goes around the house all the fleas will think supper has arrived and jump on, they they will die.

Was on old wives tale that if you moved into a new house always put the cat in first, as all the fleas will jump on the cat first.

But Frontline is the best on the market, don't get the spray on type, but the single dose ones. Always apply to behind the neck too.
