Default Eyelid Twitching

Recently my left lower eyelid started twitching every now and again. Its annoying more than anything. I took a quick look online and most places said it is very common and normally disappears after a few days or a week. However it’s carried on for about 2 weeks now and got more frequent (probably as I am more aware of it).

Most places says the main reasons are stress which I don’t think is the case – certainly don’t feel any more stressed than I have before. Caffeine which I don’t drink masses of. Usually 1-2 cups of coffee in the morning and then maybe an espresso when I get home from work but that’s about it and I wouldn’t even say I have the espresso every day. From today I will stop drinking any caffeine to see if that makes any difference but I am not convinced on that one.

Anyone else had this and if so what did you do?

Cheers
Simon

It will pass. Don't over-diagnose it. Just your eyelid muscles having spasms, nobody really knows why they do it. What can start as feeling a bit tickly soon gets irritating, but avoid the temptation to treat it with anything more than eyewash etc, which will give some relief to the rubbing you're certain to be doing.

Funny, I just had this in my left eye as well last week but I did put it down to caffeine. Working the weekend before so 8 cans of monster there. Then at least 2 cans of Monster a day through the week then Friday, Saturday nights out necking Vodka Monster. Sunday necking Monster to try and get over my hangover. Then the twitching started Sunday lunch time and lasted all week!

Same thing happened to me a few weeks ago.
Only lasted a day or two though.

Why only the left eye I wonder?

I get this now and again and am rarely under stress/ don't drink much caffeine so don't think there is necessarily a reason for it. What I have noticed is that although it feels like my eye is twitching like crazy no one else can actually see it happening (try looking in the mirror when it spasms, it'll just look normal) so try to ignore it.

That is the worst part as when talking to someone you wonder if they can see it. If I look closely in a mirror I can see it move but doubt its visable to anyone else.

Will try taking caffeine out for a while as I will admit I probably don’t drink enough liquid in a day which was one of my first thoughts it might be dehydration but have never seen that mentioned yet.

I get it occasionally, like other have said it will pass. For me usually linked to periods of stress, tiredness, or just general abuse (binge drinking ).

I get it now and then. For me it is directly linked to tiredness, by that I mean an extended period of crap nights sleep and early starts.

Ive had it before, looked it up and drinking too much, bad diet and lack of sleep can cause it. All three line up for me so it wasnt an issue, took a few days detox and was all back to normal. Theres loads of things they say causes it though so I wouldnt worry too much.

I've just had the same thing in my left eye. It stopped after a few weeks. I too was getting a bit peed off with it. I forgot all about it 'til I read this post. ;-)

I used to get it as a kid, thought it was a pulse and normal so never worried.

I had this some months back in my left eye, lasted for weeks before it cleared,i put it down too because i drive everyday, maybe it was eye strain or something.
only thing is now i have a problem with my right eye, looked online and it said could be a blocked oil gland, but i have a little bump under my right eye,its not a lump as soft when i touch it,hope its nothing serious, but will have to go the doc i reckon..

DYK. I had one of them too a few months back, disappeared after about 10 days, turned out it was a water gland, basically like an internal water leak from the eye. Looked awful, wasnt painful or anything but effected my eyesight. Hopefully yours should go down shortly and its nothing worse than that.

I had it all the time for about a month, get it now and then mild now .. very odd but nothing to worry about.

If you have any doubts, get it checked.

Remember this on Scott Mills, someone on his team said they had an eye twitch and he thought it was the latest Apple gadget (iTwitch ), asked them where they got it from and what did it do

Ah, you say that, SS69. But bloody annoying when it doesn't stop. If you've never suffered from it, think yourself lucky.

And there's no conclusive proof it's low potassium, Fatty

You could start a thread entiteld, say, "sjkgfd" - with no actual written content in the OP - and it would still run to at least 2 pages!

Dear me, I thought I was being a freak with this happening to me. Looking in the mirror, it moves very little though but you are aware of it.
I get the occasional spasm in my left arm bicep too, very disturbing seeing your arm twitching completely involuntarily.

Iv had this come on & off for over twenty years , tends to point in the direction of tiredness , run down , over straining & stress
I exept it as part of me having had it so many years , was driving through night so had a twitch this morning due to eyes been strained ( drove ncle upon Tyne - dartford )

I get extremely rapid eyelid twitches. But it is very infrequent.

It's strange.
