New Telly, syggestions please.
Not had a tv thread in a while !
Thinking of getting a new telly for the front room, we have a 37 inch one on the back, a 5 year old Toshiba whih has been ok but I can never get on the Xbox on it as she is alway watching telly on it. The front room has an old 26 inch Samsung LCD which is too small and I will not dignify it with my prescence.
So, want a 40/42 inch Led/LCD/Plasma, not after the latest, top of the range or whatever, dont want to spend a fortune, absolute top is £500 (Hopefully less) and the aging Toshiba has been fine so am thinking whatever I will buy will be better just for being later technology.

If you want plasma, then its got to be a Panasonic
If you want LED then is a pretty open field,
then the option is active or passive
but here's a hint...
when you go to the pics you watch passive 3d
ignore the half resoloution arguments lol wath a few films before you buy
then make your choice.
Oh and remember all the pictures in the shop are on display superbright demo whatever mode.

Plasma is either Panny or Samsung, former I would lean more towards.
LED - pays your money takes your choice, I'd probably still stick to the above brands with Samsung being the one I would lean towards.
I've got a Panny ST50B and love it

I think i saw an advert for argos, 42" tv for something like £300.
usual rules apply..
john lewis do a five year guarantee and will price match,
Comet will have some good deals,
also sumners in northenden are doing interest free at the moment mate,
so i would have alook in there.
if it was me i would get an LED internet.smart tv, then all your netflix etc is straight onto your tv, wouldnt bother with 3d personally

When I fancied a new TV I just went to Comet and the usual mainstream places to look myself. I saw a nice Samsung LED 40" jobby and it looked great. Big screen with decent contrast and a thin outer so didn't look overly bulky. I had a looksy on the 'net to check prices and Comet at £400 (allegedly from £700 ) were cheapest. So went back and bought it
Already had my Panasonic surround sound and doovde anyway which works fine. It isn't a Smart or 3D TV but is proper HD, 1080 x 1920 pixels, so the difference between the new and old 32" HD Ready was night and day. Through a TiVo box the picture is very impressive even just with a standard HDMI cable

I kind of rue purchasing Viera plasma 42" now, since I feel iv got to watch the bloody thing now
More so than I ever did, which I'm not comfortable with
I think I would have gone for 37 " passive 3d and saved couple hundred or no 3d and saved quite bit more

Comet do have some good deals but they are in administration, all the shops are closing, if it breaks its down to the manu to sort (if they will)
on saying that they had a really nice (almost) edgeless frame either Samsung or LG

Bought a Toshiba TL963 from Currys, got bored of looking online and went for this as it was in stock and I liked the metal bezel, looks like a more expensive one than the black ones, even the missus, who is deeply sceptical of new electronic devices couldnt moan as it is physically the same size at the front as the old (also Toshiba) 37 inch and about a quarter of the depth.
Picture is as good as I will ever need, screen usefully bigger than the old 37 inch.
Sound is ok but I think he sound bar suggestion might be a good one as the little tiny cabinets these tvs have doesnt lend itself to providing lots of lovely speakers like the old CRT's did.
Its a smart TV, well Smart ish, my one regret is it doesnt have Netflix which is a pain as that was part of the reason for getting a smart tv, not sure if it will be updated, or whether i can be updated, doesnt seem to be any capability to download further apps, just means I have to use the PS3 which is no great hardship. I have set up my phone and Ipad to work as remote controls for it, pretty cool but the standard remote does the job
Its active 3d but no glasses supplied, was only £449 so didnt expect any and wasnt bothered about 3d but will be interested to try it.
The old one is 37 and has been relegated to the kids room to do Xbox duties,
