Default Youth of today

We've just taken on a 17 year old lad, we were playing a few CD's at work yesterday and asked him if he'd heard of any of the bands/singers???
We mentioned:-
R.E.M
Shed Seven
The Verve
David Gray
Stereophonics
Travis
The Killers
Embrace
Feeder
Muse

And he'd never heard of any of them, wtf is wrong with these kids? I know not everyone will like them, but to never of heard of any of them is strange IMHO.

It depends on the parents. My children will happily listen to REM and The Eels and in turn I put up with Avril Lavigne and One Direction.

Just be thankfull that he turns up for work. The last teenager we took on lasted about 20 minutes before he downed tools and declared it was too much like hard work.

I guess that the "good old days" of TOTPs are no more?

Proper bands in the OP. At 17 probably only familiar with manufactured pop.

News can be a pain.I was chillin' last Saturday night listening to DAB & was getting pi**ed at having to listen to death & destruction every half hour+traffic+weather.
You really don't need it on a Saturday night do you?

I'm 22 and heard of these ones in your list. The lead singer of the Verve, Richard Ashcroft, lives less than 1 mile from my parents house ...Taynton, Gloucestershire.

The Verve
Stereophonics
Travis
The Killers
Feeder
Muse

Kids today are like blinkered horses insomuch as they only see what is in front of them, what their friends like. Anything else they won't entertain or acknowledge.

At his age I was far more interested in old motor bikes and rebuilding and riding them as well as sporty cars and motor racing.

There was no spare time for rock groups etc.

I think you just cemented your place on the 'i'm old and grumpy' list.

He hasn't heard of musicians/singers from before his time that are hardly played on the radio these days ? So what

They are hardly significant to the world today and it's not like they'll be remembered like Motzart.

I'm 24 and i haven't heard of a couple of them. The ones i do know don't/didn't even make the music i like.

I know all the bands, but what I find funny is I dont class the list as old bands, even though its probably been 20 years since some of them hand a top 10 hit. When I opened this post I expected to see a list of Rolling Stones, The Clash, The Who, Led Zep etc...

Rock groups?

I didn't think they had rock groups in your day?

Mind you, Vera Lynn could get the old toes tapping, eh!
