Default Things that still make Britain great

After all the crap about how we are an inept bunch of suckers who get shafted by benefits cheats, corruption in the press and government, illegal immigrants, religious extremists, banks, what can we celebrate about our country, our culture, our ethics, the best of our infrastructure/public service/ideas/innovation?

Firstly we need to agree whether, and in which way Britain WAS great?

Britain greatest strength has always been creativity
This is something in our national DNA.

For me this is our enduring 'greatness'

We WERE great, it wasn't us that appended "Great" onto Britain, y'know.

But are we still?

The jury is out.........

How proud can we be that no one was prepared to give up their seat on the bus to a pregnant woman?

In fact Cambridge University has produced more Nobel Prize winners than France

Didn't read the thread, but the fear might be whether you'd get trouble for standing aside for someone who was not pregnant? Anyway, positive thread this one

Well i'm surprised no one has mentioned,a good bloody cup of tea.
Even on the tv i've sometimes watched one of these soaps,a copper calls at someones house to inform them that a dear loved one has been involved in an accident.Neighbour then comes round to have a nose,i'll put the kettle on love,oh well its gonna make everything better that is..

Agree.

We have some of the most legible road signage. Very noticeable after driving abroad. The weather is rarely that extreme. Most people are jolly decent.

Although the finances are up in the air I look at what we have as aposed to other countries and it's nice to be able to drink the water, flush the toilet and have a good traffic system.
Every time I go abroad I love being home... Except florida

It's a shame that the things that people find fault with about Britain are also the things that make us great.
The NHS does have its faults but compare it with living somewhere like the US and I know which system I'd rather have. Our welfare system is a bit of a mess but at least we try to look after our sick, poor, and elderly.
Turn on the news and see how half the rest of the world lives; that makes me grateful that I was born here to be honest.
