Talking Question for the Scoobynet MTBers - Lights this time.

Now that the SN massive have sorted me out with some forks, I want to be out all the time

Can anyone recommend a good front light?

Bar or helmet mount, I've no preference at this point, what I do want is something that will light up a track enough for me to see obstacles before I hit them

I've got a magic shine light I think its called from deal extreme, you can get them on eBay for £30 and for the money they are bloody good, very powerful and last a few hours on full power. Don't think there is a huge difference between the hopes in terms of light, get 2 and your still way below the price of hope etc

I took a punt on one of these, wasnt expecting much as its from china and supercheap, but its mighty impressive!

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/1200-Lumen...item4601c5b6ce

When proper riding, i use this on the bars and two led spot lights on my helmet.

got a hope vision 2 which i've had for the last 2 years only had one problem with the battery pack which they replaced free of charge even though i was out of warranty!
i swear by hope stuff and have just brought the district rear light that i can run off the same battery as the front via a split cable and oh boy is it bright!!

Another vote for MagicShine. I got mine from Deal Extreme - http://dx.com/p/mj-808e-ha-iii-cree-...-4x18650-57100 Very bright, and excellent battery life.

The one on Ebay above looks very similar and cheaper.

Cheers,

Ian.

Ive had it over a year, used for night rides last winter, as a torch for working on the car, and now on my commuter bike to get to work .... its had alot of use and is still going strong.

Only downer about it i can think of is when it gets flat it doesnt go dimmer to let you know, it just goes from full beans to nowt.

I've just ordered one of these - I already have one light but I want to be seen rather than see as my riding in the dark is generally commuting. On light will be set to constant and the other to flashing and lets see how it goes. For the price it's worth a punt...

Did you bother reading the reviews before you bought it ??

Appreciate it's cheap but 2.5 stars isn't exactly a glowing endorsement

If its just to be seen rather than to see .... doubt its review means much anyway.

More money needs to be spent to provide enough light for night mountain biking though, trees come out of the dark suprisingly quickly!

If it lights up and works that's all in need - if I wanted to light up a track for some night downhill stuff then I'd spend more money.

You can get something similar at Poundland. I needed one a while back when it got dark and I was without lights. They worked fine - cheap and cheerful!

I've used stuff from wilkinsons for exactly the same reason - I just don't have the time or inclination to go into town when Amazon can do it delivered for the same cost as petrol and parking

I have the Magicshine 836 I think it is and it is ok, battery life isn't that great, or at least it soon goes to complaining on full blast, I had a Hope Vision 2 before which was better I thought, better beam considering in terms of lumens it was a lot less powerful, better bracket as well.
