Default NHS Direct not happy bunny

Hey all
Well iv had an eventful couple of days!
My appendices burst wensday night and had to have emergency surgery wensday night!
Now at home all well, just recovering from the op!
reason for the post is my fiancée rang NHS Direct to find out what to do as I was climbing the Walls!
They said they get a doctor out! Never rang or turned up!
I then fell really poorly so she called 999! The women asked if I was breathing and awake! Which I was, and because of this I didn't require an ambulance apparently!
Someone called up 5 min later! And said go and see your doctor tomorrow!
My dad said stuff this took me to the gosport war memorial where a doctor got an ambulance for me within 5 min!
Cut a long story short if I listened to an operator on the end of a phone! What would of happened to me??
Has anyone else had a similar experience? And is there anything I can do to complain?
I would love to get hold of the stupid cow at the end of the phone a go see look at this!!

Iv heard stories like this all the time and they seem to be getting away with it! What can people do??

The nurses and docs at QA Portsmouth did a fantastic job and appreshate everything they done for me! So thank you to them and to the gp that got me an ambulance!

That's odd as all they do is follow a list based triage procedure Usually an "acute abdomen" means NHS Direct call an ambulance for you.

NHS Direct is being trashed anyway...............

Very sorry to hear about your experience, 99mrbe. Glad you are on the mend. No experience of NHS Direct myself. I'm sure some others will share their NHS Direct experiences here on this thread. Take it easy.

Sorry to hear what's happened.

I'd never used NHS Direct before 2 weeks ago and they bent over backwards for me and I couldn't fault the service, but as I said at the time I thought it must go wrong occasionally.

As said above , the woman would have been going through a procedure on a screen, so maybe a complaint would be justified, but also again as said above, their not going to be around much longer

If your verbal skills are as poor as your written ones perhaps they couldn't understand what you were saying.

You really do need to be taken down a peg or two.

One of these days, hopefully when you can't hide behind a screen, that mouth of yours is going to dig a hole you won't be able to crawl out of.

Doctor or not, your attitude towards others is f**king disgraceful

I was taught that it is rude to criticise other peoples' style of speech or grammar etc..

We've used nhs direct a few times and they've been fine. Sometimes giving the right diagnosis compared to our gp who didn't....

Some people on here need to take a chill pill. It's a car based internet forum, not an operating theatre or the United Nations. I'm here for banter, not to solve the world's problems.

I'm not surprised specialneeds4speed has popped up here, after getting his ar8se handed to him on the last thread he wants his revenge.

He did end up looking like a prize plank on that thread, what with his 'indepth knowledge of acute medicine'

And then we have Pimmo, now I wonder what his agenda is?

Sorry to hear what happened.

TO be fair people should really not take the pee out of peoples writing on the forum, some may not be as lucky as others to be able to spell or use proper grammar some may not have had private educations or even managed to get through school to the end - what's it matter.

Everyone deserves to be able to post a true and honest post in a thread or start a new one if it suits and to be able to have proper comments made, ones that do not bully or troll against the individual - which some one here do and in the fullness of the SN policy should really result in bans.

It is unfair to take one persons written word and knowing that you may be better at writing then they are and post unjust comments which should really be kept in your own head.

If someone has dyslexia or another type of illness then they should be supported not flamed. After all it is not their fault they have it, is it.

I just hope that one day when some of you require help with something you are not the best at someone takes you apart in front of many people.

Paul.

Just FYI dinglewan*er.

I gave up on that last thread because it was obvious you have the same lack of respect for other healthcare professionals that are non doctors, as you have shown towards people on here that may not be as academically educated as yourself.

By the way,

I asked the two spinal specialists at work (one of which is a doctor as you remember) and another doctor who I work with what they thought about that scenario.

All of them said it was a complete over prescription of medication. As for The GP that said he can perform a accurate back assessment in 3 minutes, they just laughed.

So there you go. Three people all agreeing with me and two of them your beloved fellow doctors, who are equally as qualified, equally as experienced, and belong to the same professional body as you. No doubt you will say they too are wrong.

As I said previously, your lack of respect for other people and your obviously personality flaws are going to get you in trouble on day.

I am happy to pm you my contact details if you would like to discuss any issues you may have with me in person.

The service you are thinking of is PALS (patient advice and liaison service).

NHS direct will interrogate the triage and pull up your answers to the standard algorithm questions and possible recording. If the gist of it was that you were writhing in agony on the floor, unable to stand, vomiting etc. then they might take action.

Similarly if the 999 ambulance person said on the phone recording that you were breathing so don't need an ambulance then again action will be taken.

Depends what the audit trail shows up.

Er, unless i am mistaken, when you are writing a post or reply, the magic of the Interwebs puts a wiggly red underline underneath words that may be incorrectly spelt (such as "Interwebs" above, indeed "spelt" might also be wrong, but Word disagrees!).

So there is no excuse, and thus it is being lazy, if not downright rude, to post using bad English!

That's the one! Not really looked into it yet, iv only just got out!
I started this thread not to slag of the nhs as I believe they do a fantasic job, or to have it marked with a big red pen! This thread was to find out if people had a similar experience and if so what action did they take?!
So others in the future know what to do!

Agenda ? as far as I know you haven't directly insulted me and I'm the first to take the ****, but your posts continue to make you look like a complete **** hole.

I don't know why you have a hardon for insulting people, or quoting how "clever" you are, but I certainly pay no more attention to you than I do any other poster.

Shaun's advice is sound. NHS 24, the Scottish equivalent are normally far too quick to call ambulances, but severe abdominal pain merits examination asap, and reassessment if a development of earlier symptoms which would routinely attract the advice to reconsult with worsening as it is an important part of the management of abdominal pain.

need4speeduk, if you wish to resume our previous discussion and consider the quality of evidence you have introduced here, I will be happy to do so in the original thread, in its correct context rather than your misrepresentation here.

Only if you have the add-on I believe. Also not all words are in the add-on dictionary only ones it does know.

If someone posts to the best of their own personal ability why should they be ridiculed because they cannot spell or put grammar in the correct places....to be honest I don't think they should be as it is just as bad at laughing at a one legged person trying to run a disability or impediment is exactly what it is something that inhibits someone from doing something as good as others potentially (although it is proven wrong by some people)

If someone just cannot do it due to what ever reason, just because you or others think they are lazy really doesn't give anyone the right to say things about them, just let them be or even and this may be a problem for most, try to help them.

Also not everyone is from the UK.

How will he know which is the correct spelling?

Do you expect him to look up every word just to satisfy some small minded posters who have a need to correct everything?
