Society for Black Lawyers ...
... want to ban Spurs fans from singing "Yid-Army".
If Spurs fans can't call themselves Yids, then SBL shouldn't be allowed to called themselves black lawyers - the term lawyer is generally accepted as a term of abuse so combining it with the word black makes it a racial insult.

Agree. Im all for kicking racism out of everything but the fact is you cant have so many people in the world without a few of them being idiots, and i think all this black lawyers stuff is just segregating everyone.
Not being able to chant Yid Army is another example of PC gone mad. Surely its not what you say its how you mean it. Yid army is sung by spurs fans in an affectonate way with no antisemitism intended therefore how can you feel offended by it?!
...one of my best mates is black and built like a tank. If he was in a group of white people and someone asked which was my mate i would say he was the massive black dude. He would not even register any problem in what i said...... But it seems going by whats being said, i must inadvertently be a racist **** barsteward by not ignoring the obvious fact that my friend is black?! .

Something I posted in the Sport section a week or so ago when they first came to prominence after the Chelsea game
"It's also very concerning to learn that the Society of Black Lawyers only reported this to the Met based on what they'd heard on Sky Sports and in the Media. If ever a group of people should understand Innocent until proven guilty then surely it's lawyers and one can only assume they did what they did because of race as all sensibility seems to have been lost"

The way all this is going there will be a mass backlash against the whole race thing. It's now racist to call someone who's black, err black? FFS it's getting beyond a joke. I'm a Spurs fan myself and what on earth has it got to do with some society of black lawyers what we call ourselves. I'll listen to any chant at a football match, it's only banter.
Why aren't these groups that push their causes solely based on skin colour banned as racist? Seems to me if you're a white British male in this country you have to put up with a barrage of politically correct nonsense served up by racist and sexist "on message" pressure groups.

I find it amazing that segregation based on skin colour has been attacked throughout the World to eradicate it such as Apartheid yet in this country we have black people wanting segregation based on their skin colour such as the MOBO awards and the Society for Black Lawyers.
As already mentioned we all know what would happen if we had white only awards or societies. Surely the whole idea now is that there is no difference in skin colour and everyone is treated the same, so why do some black people want black only groups? That is just bringing back racism by saying they are different in some way and must have their own societies?

I heard this on the radio the other day and couldn't stop laughing.
Absolutely stupid.
'You can't call me black but we can form a group that you are not allowed into because of your skin colour!'

I'm sure it's all about money - they are trying to make a case for setting up a separate union for black professional footballers alongside the existing PFA, and this a way of getting publicity.
As ever with lawyers they are trying to push the boundaries of the law. Spurs' statement in response http://www.telegraph.co.uk/sport/foo...k-Lawyers.html was well considered and much better informed.
There is legislation which specifically addresses racist chanting at football matches, and the CPS has set out very clear guidance on what would constitute an offence.
"This offence is committed when a group of people, or one person acting alone, chants something of a racialist nature at a designated football match. "Racialist" means the same as "racist".
To prove this offence, the prosecution has to show that the chanting, which means the repeated uttering of words or sounds, was threatening, abusive or insulting to another person because of that person's colour, race, nationality (including citizenship) or ethnic or national origin."
The only grey area is whether Yid is a racist or religious term, as this legislation does not address religious matters. If its construed as a religious term then the "incitement to religious hatred" legislation comes in to play - where the CPS guidance is even clearer.
"The offence is committed if a person uses threatening words or behaviour, or displays any written material, which is threatening, if he intends thereby to stir up religious hatred. Threatening is the operative word, not abusive or insulting."
If SBL do make a complaint about Spurs fans as threatened I hope they are charged with wasting police time.

I see the "Society's" chairman Peter Herbert is now crying that there has been a cover up by Chelsea and the FA since the police dropped the society's complaint, he argues Chelsea should have also reported this to the police.
I have no affiliation with Clattenburg or Referees but I find it disgusting that Herbert and his society is using Clattenburg as a vehicle for their crusade. That's someone's life and livelihood you're playing with !

I think it's disgraceful that they are encouraging Mikel to approach the Police himself. I hate $hit-stirring do-gooders like this with a passion.

Chelsea failed to produce any evidence!
A Met spokesman said:
“Inquiries were made and no victims have come forward. The matter will remain as a recorded incident."
“Without a victim and/or any evidence that any offence has been committed, the matter cannot currently be investigated. If the situation changes and a victim and/or evidence to support an allegation of a crime comes to police attention, then further inquiries will, if appropriate, be made.”
