No. Any USB charger will charge any Apple mobile device. Apple have released two charging adaptors in the last ten years, if your devices span that release then you will need two leads or an adaptor.

Hardly, the old adaptor was ten years old, Good Guy Apple. If I was you I'd take a look at other manufacturers, lets say you bought a docking station for the Galaxy S3 - if there is such a thing - when the S4 arrives no doubt the charging socket will be in a different place making your dock obsolete in one revision. I have no doubt that were you to buy a docking station for the iPhone 5 it will work with the iPhone 6 and likely the rest of the Apple range. Good guy Apple again.

Both can cause a problem for some, Apple caused the problem once in ten years, Samsung about ten times a year.

They may use the same connector and you can use the same cable with the iPhone, but were talking docks here.

I have never owned such a thing, I see no need for it. I can get through life as easily as ever before all these gadgets and I really don't feel the need to be poncing about on a computer when I am away from my desktop at home. I agree that a mobile phone is a useful thing to have of course.
