Stephen Dawkins on More4
Sex, Death and the Meaning of Life.

Anyone else catch Stephen Dawkins on More4 last night?
Some pretty compelling stuff that's base in truth and without a religious angle. It was interesting to note that the amount of deaths from "wars" have dropped at the same time that the belief in religion as also dropped.
Since the collapse of the Cold War the decline as seen the greatest drop. It seems that we have an inner moral compass that eventually makes us see reason, right and wrong without being told by "a God".

Isn't he the lead singer of The Darkness?
I didn't see the program, but I hope in between singing he noted that statistics can be used to show anything, and that correlation does not necessarily mean causality!

So, if 100 people died of the plague and it is proven then your saying that 100 people may not have died of the plague .
The stats where not provided by him by the way. Watch the programme and then comment, education can be both enlightening and dispel myth, you should try it some time.

Err, I think my point completely passed you by Trooper!
Let me spell it out for you another way:
In the last 100 years, the amount of CO2 in the atmosphere has risen sharply. At the same time, obesity rates have also risen. Therefore, surely pollution causes obesity!
I am not saying Hawking is wrong in his assessment, I'm just saying his conclusions might not be right either and a critical thinker would think twice before swallowing someone's opinion as truth.
Educate yourself - you could start here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Correla...mply_causation

What Dawkins needs to be careful of is that by attacking a particularly broad memeplex he doesn't create the space for another more potent and specialised and dangerous memeplex to spread. All the best with that one.

a set of thoughts and ideas (meme is an abbreviation of memory gene, as far as I know).
"memetics" is, from what i can tell, the idea (meme ) that memes operate in an environment similar to genes in the sense that they're all competing for resources (space in our brain etc etc), and thus there is an (genetic) evolution-like process, where memes change over time. The successful meme's (i.e. the things people remember) "survive", and the unsuccessful ones are forgotten (die).
