Default Carbon frame road bikes

What do you clean yours with?

I've just bought my first full carbon bike and have been thinking about how to keep it spotless. Reading on the net certain cleaning products shouldn't be used for fear of damaging the carbons integrity. Baby wipes are a popular choice whilst others use luke warm water with soap.

Any suggestions.......

Thanks

Nik.

Mine has carbon forks, I use muc-off and water and a sponge. Never had an issue.
As above the carbon should be coated anyway so makes no difference.

This seems to be the general opinion

It's fine to wash carbon bicycles and components like you would any other using warm soapy water and a hose. Yet, as with any bike, it's never a good idea to aim the water directly at bearings (headsets, cranks, etc) because that can wash the grease out. For especially greasy components any bike-safe degreaser, which*shops can supply, will work fine and won't effect the carbon in any way. After cleaning, rinsing and drying,*I recommend adding a little protection with a bike polish or spray wax (Pledge furniture polish works nicely and you simply spray it on and wipe it off).
Full site here and lists all the very reasons I stay well away from Carbon Fibre, mainly the fact that you just have to be sooooo careful and I just know that I'd wreck mine within the first year.

Carbon forks is my only concession at present

I think the internet can make you worry far too much.

Baby wipes are good as I can clean the bike in the garage, on the stand.

I used carbon boom windsurfing with a damn great split in it in it in the middle of winter, it really pained my to give it up and buy new
Be honest I doubt it was ever going to snap

Yes they may be brittle, ultimatey, when forced in an unnatural direction, if you really really went for it

I've always used the same sort of stuff I use on my car. PH neutral shampoo and then spray either WD40 or GT85 on the frame as a water dispersant and then wipe dry. Never had a problem with 4 carbon frames doing it that way

My Giant has a matt finish and I...

wet the bike with warm water
spray with Green Fizz
soft sponge to clean or brush where needed
dry bike
spray GT85 to get water out of mechs etc
once dry I use http://www.finishlineusa.com/products/pro-detailer.htm
