Saw this yesterday on the GoPro Twitter feed. Pretty amazing. Would have been motoring when it hit. But onto grass luckily.
I've known people drop a naked one to concrete from five foot and wreck them.
I lost one in a case from the side of a car at about 60mph. Only dropped about two feet but bounced for 100m or so. Was totally fine. Suction mount fell off. Didn't have a backup tether either (doh).
So as I always say now, use a tether. Well, unless you are made of money of course.

Lucky enough , my mate dropped his out of its case on a kart track from about 2 feet and it broke !

People have survived from higher (there are two wartime cases that I recall). A GoPro doesnt weigh much though, so it could have been dropped from the edge of space and it wouldnt have dade a deal of difference.
