Was a Toyota actually, and they were doing really well, but both ultimately retired.
Real shame to see the Nissan Delta taken out. Poor driver spent 1.5hours trying to get it in a state to get it back to the pits. Poor guy was in tears when it became obvious it wouldn't happen
Great event though, one of the best in years.

That kind of accident (slower car fails to check mirrors before taking out faster car) is quite common in that race, a natural by product of running so many classes over that time period. But they're never normally that spectacular
It's usually Mercedes that get the big air on the Mulsanne I don't think Toyota have managed it before

I remember a couple of Audi's getting airborne previously. Wasn't it McNish that went airborne and left the track ending up in the tree's a few years back ?

Intertesting point is it only got airbourne once sideways due to the loss of downforce.....Nascars have roof flaps that deploy to keep the car on the ground when they slide sideways.
And please someone smack the bint in the commentator's box "OMG he's so lucky" seriously what the f**k?...he's not even out the car, could be dead and you say "he's so lucky?"

It was Peter Dumbreck's car that took off in the race, after Mark Webber had performed an almost identical manoeuvre in qualifying
Like I said, getting airborne is Mercedes' favourite party trick, not Audi
Alan McNish's accidents (see this year's incident, or last year's) are almost always the result of him attempting overly aggressive, and usually unnecessary, passing moves on slower GT cars

Joz beat me to it
Probably 'Sky, Trees, Sky, Trees, Sky, Trees, Ouch'
IIRC both he and Webber did walk away though, AMG may not have known how to do aero, but they did build fecking strong cars :
No. The other Scot, Peter Dumbreck.

Truly truly horrific. Can you imagine what was going through his mind!!!

Just googled the Mercs, apparently Webber flipped the same car twice
Lifted from Wikipedia, apparently it was the CLR's only competitive outing
Merc spent years claiming the fault lay with the track, before finally owning up to screwing up the aero calcs
Found this from the previous year too;
He so nearly landed it
However, Mark Webber's #4 car became airborne at the Indianapolis corner during the Thursday night qualifying session. The car was rebuilt from scratch on Friday, modified for more downforce at the front, and entered in the Saturday morning warm-up[1]. This time, Mark Webber only made it to the hump before the Mulsanne corner when the car backflipped in spectacular fashion, this time caught in mid-air[2] by photographers. Luckily, neither Webber nor anyone else was injured on either occasion.
Despite the second incident and its echoes of the 1955 Le Mans disaster, Norbert Haug decided to go ahead and enter the other two cars in the afternoon, with additional modifications and instructions to the drivers not to follow others cars closely over humps.
Still after over 4 hours, driven at the time by Peter Dumbreck, the #5 CLR chased a Toyota GT-One and became airborne two turns before Indianapolis, somersaulting and landing over the barriers into the trees, all on worldwide live TV. The crowd in the Le Mans grandstands was terrified, seeing the pictures on large screens without hearing any comment for a long time. No injuries were sustained in this incident. The race continued under yellow flag conditions. The #6 CLR, driven by Bernd Schneider, was immediately retired.

Until I looked it up, I hadn't realised Webber was in the same car for his second crash.
I do remember being astonished at the time that the Mercedes board permitted the remaining cars to actually race, bearing in mind what happened the last time one of their cars left the track there
