Default Any fridge/freezer experts on here?

We have a samsung american style fridge/freezer and yesterday noticed that both the freezer and fridge had stopped working.
Power is ok as lights are on, front display works etc but the compressor is not kicking in to cool them down.
Can't get a repairman out till tomorrow so after a few checks i can do.
When i turn power on to unit you hear a few clicks then a louder click coming from a little pack situated directly on side of compressor then nothing more happens?
Unit is approx 3-4 years old.

Any idea's?

Relay not cutting the compressor in ?? Either that or the relay is working but the compressor is low on gas and not having enough refridgerant to pump round

Our engineer said that the compressor could of siezed. The two different clicks are the relay trying the start the compressor then the louder one being the cutout on the compressor cutting in to stop it overheating.
It can't be bypassed.

Compressor siezed is big money

Have a search on Google but there is known fault with these to do with ice build up around a fan on the back of it. Even made it onto Watchdog I think.

Was enough to put me off when looking for one and bought a Panasonic instead.

as Bodski says = compressor is most likely fault. put your hand on the compressor body - is it very hot, if so confirms faulty compressor

Yeh have found details of the ice build up but that isn't problem here as my symptoms are different.
Did feel the compressor yesterday after a few hours of it not being on and it was still hot to touch, even 5 hours or so after i knew it had packed up there was still warmth to touch on the compressor housing.

If it is the compressor samsung will be hearing from me as an expensive fridge/freezer should last longer then 3-4 years.
