It's a crap film with a moronic and obvious 'subtext' of using apartheid allusions to say no to racism. It's spoon fed moralising garbage.

Good film. Its only loosely political.... It is possible to watch and ignore the sub-text

I would say it's more about xenophobia than apartheid.
Have you been to that part of South Africa ?

Great film.
It reminded me of The Quatermass Experiment a lot
which is a good thing.

IIRC the chap that made District 9 was working for Peter Jacksons WETA workshop when peter saw the effects he had designed for the aliens and basically dropped his wallet on the desk and told him to go make it!
yes it does elude alot toward the apartheid camps of years ago hence the name but it's a great sci fi romp for 2 hours IMO

I wonder if that is why it reminded me of Bad Taste ( I know the films are worlds apart, but I found some feeling of coincidence between them)

watched chronicle last night quite an interesting watch. 3 young guys get some powers from a crashed alien source buried in the ground and the consequences involved in them experimenting with them and trying to keep it a secret and the inevitable going too far with them. didnt like the documentary style filming to begin with but you soon forget it and get into the film. def worth a watch
