Thats very good vfm, atleast with a vauxhall you know its not going to break down like a vw does (plus lifetime/100k miles warranty).

Vauxhall without a doubt make some of the most boring cars on the road, they make the old shape Civic look good.

The warranty is useless as it only applies to the first owner does it not?

I think it's a cynical marketing ploy by GM, as how many would buy the car brand new and run it to 100,000 miles or until it goes to the scrapper?

I agree it's not in the same class as a Honda Civic ..... but, come on, what a cracking bargain.

At that price you can just run it into the ground over 10 years and have full warranty cover for the whole period ...... it's as cheap as new motoring ever gets.

It is a pretty good deal but Vauxhalls tend to be miserable things to be in, don't think I've ever been in one I could say I would be happy to own.

Well, I have to admit here and now, I had a Vauxhall which I would put up there in my best 3 cars ever - and, I have owned quite a number.

What was it? A 1992 Calibra 16v, silver, with black sports leather heated seats ..... what an amazing car - looked better than anything on the road with cavalier running costs - BRILLIANT!!

But, yes, Vauxhall have now lost their way .....

The 1.3 diesel gets no where near 80mpg, total myth, its quite thirsty considering its size
Had 80mpg out of my PSA 1.6 HDI engine though

That was Vauxhall 15 years ago, well maybe 10 my old astra H was a hoot to drive and a diesel and the new astra pretty much made it a class leader until ford brought out the new focus, its a better car than you would expect, sells more units than alot of the german competition

now im agreeing with you twice
i had a calibra and have to say i quite liked it, the seats and the electric sunroof were quite flash back in the 90's
mine even had 4wd and a six speed box.
mind you the paintwork sucked, 5 mins in the sun and it went pink

I have a Vauxhall Astra VXR, and I must say, I absoutely love it. I honestly cannot fault it and I don't know why VX have such a bad stigma attached to them.

My parents old cars in the past used to be Vauxhalls as well and they literally never had problems with them.

Don't knock them until you've actually driven a nice one

They are producing pretty good reliable cars these days.

having driven one of the vauxhall vxrs a few times i can tell you why it has a stigma.
it handles like a pig, epic understeer and torque steer.

looks nice though.

Hardly any torque steer really. Yeah handling isn't the best but it's still good, but it's FWD. Get an IDS and RARB on it and bingo....

i dont dislike it, but the handling is very bad, the outside styling is excellent but interior looks like they have just fitted recaros to a budget version.

i can imagine its a death trap in the wet though as it struggles to stay on the road in the dry

It really isn't. I don't know why you're making it out to be some sort of death trap

Maybe if you had tyres somehow made out of ice then yes!

chill out fella, i quite like them.
i have used one several times, it is fast in a straight line but it really is a bad handling car which is confirmed by the motoring press.

As ive said, my diesel astra H (1.9 cdti) handled very well, even in the wet (and that had over 200lbs of torque going through the front tyres), maybe just the way some people drive them?

Honda don't have to discount - and don't sell to Fleet Sales.

It's generally the mature Car Buyer who buys a Honda .... and their experiences tells them a good car from an also ran.

Really, honestly, my Honda is shaping up to be right up their with my Impreza, Calibra and MX5 in the great feeling it gives you.

It would have to be really cheap to tempt me - as I have to say vauxhall dealers are probably one of the worse in my experience, an utter joke at fixing any problem, whether it’s in warranty or not.

The thought of having a car for 10 years just does not appeal to me.

Owning a car for 10 years tells you that you made the right choice ..... I used to change cars every 12 months.... until the Calibra arrived and changed my view - I now had a car I loved.

These are not fleet sales Pete, these are normal sales, if you want the fleet sales figures then I could find them for you?

Would I want a car everyone else had?

NO!!

Driving a Honda is like driving a Subaru ..... it say's that you TRULY know your cars, you don't care about what the badge says ...... it's that smugness you get looking at all the oiks in cars which are so much less superior.
